Overview

As a remote Ruby Engineer focused on AI data training, you will review AI-generated Ruby and Rails code and provide expert feedback that guides models toward accurate, logical explanations. You’ll assess reasoning quality and step-by-step problem solving, aiming for clear, well-structured responses. You’ll examine readability, maintainability, and MVC structure, flagging domain or control-flow issues and suggesting idiomatic Ruby patterns. This hourly, contract role opens access to future opportunities within SME Careers’ expert network.

What You'll Do6

  • 1Review AI-generated Ruby and Rails code samples, assessing correctness and idiomatic usage, and annotate improvements.
  • 2Develop clear prompts and example solutions to guide model reasoning in Ruby-focused tasks for real-world scenarios.
  • 3Evaluate model reasoning and provide structured feedback on MVC layer design and controller-service interactions.
  • 4Identify readability and maintainability issues in code samples and propose targeted refactors.
  • 5Produce high-quality explanations and model solutions that demonstrate idiomatic Ruby patterns.
  • 6Rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and reasoning quality to inform training data quality.

Requirements8

  • 11–2+ years of production Ruby coding experience.
  • 2Deep proficiency in Ruby on Rails, MVC patterns, and idiomatic Ruby constructs.
  • 3Hands-on track record building and maintaining Rails apps under real-world production constraints.
  • 4Ability to judge readability, maintainability, and correctness in Ruby and Rails code across models, controllers, and services.
  • 5Extensive use of AI tooling with disciplined validation and peer review of outputs.
  • 6Excellent English writing for clear, structured technical explanations and feedback.
  • 7Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • 8Nice to have: AI data training experience, large-scale code reviews, or contributions to Ruby open-source projects; interest in metaprogramming or test-heavy systems.

Who Should Apply

Ideal candidates bring solid Ruby and Rails expertise and 1–2+ years of production work. They will enjoy the details of code quality, MVC structure, and documenting clear explanations. This role is less suitable for you if you lack production Ruby experience or have limited English writing ability, since both are essential for technical feedback and training-output reviews. A strong preference exists for those with experience evaluating AI-generated content or using LLMs in coding tasks and a track record of precise, detail-oriented work.
