Overview

Put your military writing expertise to work on a paid contract training AI systems. You will create realistic Department of Defense reports, judge AI outputs, and build grading rubrics that shape model behavior. No background in AI is required; your domain knowledge in federal documentation drives the work. This is a fully remote position open to US-based writers, paying $40-$80 per hour.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Write authentic military status reports, summaries, and executive updates from provided prompts and source materials.
  • 2Create benchmark 'golden responses' that exemplify top-tier, standards-compliant military reporting for AI training.
  • 3Design scoring rubrics and assessment guidelines that capture federal and military writing best practices.
  • 4Review AI-generated reports and deliver precise written and verbal critiques to improve model performance.
  • 5Describe how different authors and services handle common documents such as WARs, SITREPs, and AARs.
  • 6Draft additional operational documents like decision briefs, memos, and action officer updates when requested.
  • 7Partner with fellow subject-matter experts to broaden reporting style diversity and maintain branch-specific accuracy.

Requirements7

  • 1At least three years of hands-on experience as a U.S. Department of Defense professional, including work with military documentation.
  • 2Track record of producing standard reports like Weekly Activity Reports (WARs), Situation Reports (SITREPs), or After-Action Reviews.
  • 3Familiarity with more than one military branch is preferred; diverse operational backgrounds are a plus.
  • 4Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially for explaining technical or operational details clearly.
  • 5Ability to create, grade, and critique military or federal documents, including PowerPoints, memos, and spreadsheets.
  • 6Based in the U.S. with solid knowledge of federal documentation standards and compliance requirements.
  • 7Comfort with remote collaboration and willingness to share insights on complex, rule-driven reporting processes.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate has served in the U.S. military and produced official reports for years, so they can instantly spot what good military writing looks like. This role is not suited for civilian writers without direct DoD exposure, nor for people who dislike remote, independent work. Many applicants get passed over because they cannot point to exact examples of WARs, SITREPs, or AARs they have written, or because they have no experience grading others' work. If you can describe how your writing style varied across assignments and branches, you will stand out immediately.

Salary Insight

The pay is $40-$80 per hour, depending on experience and evaluation skills. No other compensation details are provided in the listing.
