Overview

Mercor needs senior mechanical engineers to audit evaluation tasks built for AI systems that work inside Fortune 500 product design and manufacturing settings. The scenarios mirror the design complexity, safety stakes, and production scale of large industrial manufacturers, so reviewers must judge work the way a seasoned engineering lead would. Two standards tracks sit behind the task set: a US track built on ASME and an International track built on ISO. You can qualify through either track or both. Each review covers engineering scenarios, reference outputs, and grading rubrics written to capture how senior F500 engineering leaders reason.

What You'll Do5

  • Audit mechanical engineering tasks, model outputs, and supporting artifacts for technical accuracy, realism, and the level of complexity a senior professional would expect.
  • Check calculations, design assumptions, analyses, and conclusions against the standards track that applies to the task.
  • Examine design documentation and any CAD or simulation evidence to surface errors, missing details, and assumptions that do not hold together.
  • Score grading rubrics on clarity, specificity, and whether they separate sound professional judgment from textbook recall.
  • Write direct feedback on each finding and confirm that later revisions actually fix the problems you raised.

Requirements4

  • 5+ years as a mechanical engineer or engineering lead at a Fortune 500 firm or a major industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing company.
  • Hands-on ownership of large-scale product designs, manufacturing processes, or engineering certification programs.
  • Working fluency with enterprise mechanical engineering tools and methods.
  • Practical grasp of how safety standards, regulatory certification (ASME, ISO, FAA, FDA), and cross-functional design governance operate in a real organization.

Preferred Qualifications2

  • A professional engineering credential such as a US PE, CEng, or EUR ING.
  • Prior authorship of rubrics, engineering training curricula, or design documentation.

Who Should Apply

Mechanical engineers with at least five years at a Fortune 500 or major industrial manufacturer who have owned large product designs or certification programs and can spot weak assumptions in calculations, CAD, and simulation evidence. Reviewers fluent in ASME, ISO, or both fit best.

Salary Insight

This role pays $90.00 per hour. That rate sits well above typical contract rates for engineering review work and reflects the seniority expected, since the tasks demand the judgment of an engineer who has carried design and certification responsibility at enterprise scale.
