Overview
AfterQuery builds the evaluation data that frontier AI labs run against their models, and this contract puts literary judgment at the center of that work. You write close reading scenarios, pair each one with a reference interpretation tied to evidence in the text, and grade model answers on how well they hold to the page. The role suits readers who can separate a plausible-sounding take from one the passage actually supports. Work runs remote and async with a ten-hour weekly floor and no ceiling, and pay arrives each week through Stripe at a rate set from your background.
What You'll Do7
- Build literary scenarios that ask a model to read a passage, a form, a voice or a tradition instead of recalling facts.
- Draft reference readings that tie every interpretive claim to specific lines, syntax and diction.
- Score model responses on textual fidelity, interpretive depth and awareness of craft.
- Call out answers that sound learned but drift from what the passage says, the kind of miss a trained reader catches at once.
- Spread coverage across periods, genres or traditions so the evaluation set stays wide.
- Document the reasoning behind each grade so reviewers can follow your judgment.
- Refine scenarios as new model behavior exposes gaps in the test.
Requirements8
- Advanced degree in literature, English, comparative literature or a neighboring field.
- Two or more years of teaching, research, editorial work or published criticism.
- Close reading depth that spans periods, genres or traditions.
- Written English clear enough to lay out an interpretation and the evidence beneath it.
- Availability of at least 10 hours per week.
- PhD with peer reviewed publications for preferred consideration.
- Editorial or creative writing craft experience, also preferred.
- Reading knowledge of literatures beyond English, a plus.
Who Should Apply
Literary scholars and critics who can point to the exact words behind an interpretation and say why another reading misses. Teachers, editors and published writers with two or more years of literary work fit best here.
