Overview

Mercor is looking for experienced civil legal services attorneys to help refine AI systems designed for legal reasoning. In this short-term project, you'll evaluate AI-generated analyses on real-world scenarios in housing, family law, and consumer protection, and provide clear written feedback to improve accuracy and practical usefulness. This role is ideal for attorneys who have represented individuals through legal aid organizations and want to shape the next generation of legal technology.

What You'll Do5

  • 1Assess AI-generated legal analyses for correctness, completeness, and real-world applicability, focusing on civil legal issues.
  • 2Review hypothetical cases involving landlord-tenant disputes, evictions, subsidized housing, foreclosure, child custody, domestic violence, debt collection, and predatory lending.
  • 3Spot legal errors, procedural gaps, missing jurisdiction-specific details, and other shortcomings in AI outputs.
  • 4Deliver structured, actionable written feedback that helps improve the AI's legal reasoning and response quality.
  • 5Use your courtroom and client advocacy experience to judge whether AI solutions would actually help vulnerable populations.

Requirements3

  • 1A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active U.S. bar license in good standing.
  • 2At least 3 years of hands-on experience practicing civil legal services, ideally with a focus on housing, family, or consumer law.
  • 3Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to identify nuanced errors and recommend improvements.

Who Should Apply

We're seeking attorneys who have spent years working directly with low-income individuals and families through legal aid organizations or public interest practices. You should be passionate about access to justice and comfortable evaluating technology that could scale legal assistance. A background in supervising junior attorneys or reviewing legal work products is a plus, as is curiosity about AI-assisted legal workflows.

Salary Insight

This role pays $120 per hour for a short-term, project-based engagement, offering flexibility to work remotely while contributing to a cutting-edge legal AI initiative.

Application Tip

When applying, emphasize your experience in specific civil law areas like housing law or family law, and highlight any past work with legal aid nonprofits. If you've ever reviewed or supervised legal work products, mention that too — it's directly relevant to evaluating AI outputs.
