Investment Banking & M&A - Finance Domain Expert | $100-$150/hr Remote
Overview
An AI lab building frontier models needs a senior finance practitioner to judge what correct financial reasoning looks like. You will work inside the client's own tools alongside their research and program management teams, reviewing finance knowledge tasks and writing instruction specs that define quality. Your background in investment banking or M&A matters more than general business experience, since the models must handle real professional work. Employment is full-time W-2 through Cincinnatus LLC, based in the Bay Area with on-site presence required multiple days each week.
What You'll Do6
- 1Audit finance knowledge tasks and model responses for missing steps, thin reasoning, and conclusions that sound correct but would not survive a professional review.
- 2Write instruction specifications and golden answers that define what a complete and defensible finance answer contains.
- 3Develop new finance problems and evaluation sets modeled on real investment banking and M&A transactions.
- 4Work with client researchers to build finance-specific evaluation tools and skill definitions.
- 5Convert tacit financial judgment into explicit, rubric-based criteria for model grading.
- 6Provide structured written feedback on tasks and model outputs to raise quality over time.
Requirements8
- 1Five or more years of full-time finance experience at an investment bank, asset manager, private equity or credit fund, Big Four firm, large corporate finance team, or financial regulator.
- 2Deep expertise in one finance discipline such as investment banking, M&A, corporate finance, asset management, private credit, quantitative risk, treasury, or audit.
- 3Career progression to a senior individual contributor or leadership post: VP, Director, Principal, Managing Director, Portfolio Manager, Controller, or CFO.
- 4An MBA, MS, or PhD in a finance-related field, or a CFA, CPA, FRM, or actuarial credential (strongly preferred).
- 5Hands-on use of large language models in your professional workflow, plus the ability to separate rigorous reasoning from fluent but incorrect output.
- 6Reliable availability for 40 hours per week across a six-month initial engagement.
- 7Bay Area residence with the ability to work on-site several days a week; candidates elsewhere must relocate at their own expense.
- 8Exceptional written English, including the skill to deliver precise and usable feedback.
Who Should Apply
The right candidate works every day with complex transactions or valuations and can explain why a model's answer is wrong the way they would in a deal memo. Someone whose finance exposure sits on the edges, such as a strategy consultant who builds a model once a quarter, will not pass the screening. Candidates also get rejected when they show no hands-on use of chatbots or LLMs in their own workflow, because the role hinges on judging model output. Concrete examples of your judgment and tight, specific written feedback carry more weight than a slick interview performance.
Salary Insight
The posted rate is $100 to $150 per hour. For a senior finance professional with investment banking or M&A depth, that range outperforms many W-2 contract roles in AI training, where pay often rewards narrow domain expertise over broad business experience.
