Finance Domain Expert — AI Training & Evaluation | $50-$90/hr Remote
Overview
A leading AI lab's GenAI team needs a senior finance practitioner to judge and improve how frontier models handle real financial work. The role involves reviewing finance tasks and model outputs, writing instruction specs and golden solutions, and building benchmarks that measure model progress. This is a full-time W-2 position through Cincinnatus LLC, placed inside the client's own tools and workflows. The work is hybrid in the Bay Area, with on-site collaboration required several days each week.
What You'll Do4
- 1Review finance knowledge tasks and model outputs for missing details, weak logic, flawed assumptions, and answers that look polished but fail professional scrutiny.
- 2Write instruction specs and golden solutions for finance problems, and define new tasks that mirror real-world finance practice.
- 3Design challenging finance tasks and evaluation sets, and contribute to building finance-specific skills and tools alongside the research team.
- 4Collaborate with client researchers and specialists in adjacent fields to keep evaluation standards consistent, translating tacit financial judgment into explicit, teachable criteria.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of dedicated professional finance experience at a recognized institution such as an investment bank, asset manager, private equity or credit fund, Big Four firm, large corporate finance function, or financial regulator.
- 2Deep specialization in at least one finance discipline: corporate finance and FP&A, investment banking and M&A, asset or wealth management, private equity or private credit, quantitative finance and risk management, treasury, or accounting and audit.
- 3Career progression to a senior individual-contributor or leadership level such as Vice President, Director, Principal, Managing Director, Portfolio Manager, Controller, or CFO.
- 4An advanced degree from a strong program (MBA, MS, or PhD in finance, economics, accounting, or a quantitative field) and/or a recognized credential such as CFA, CPA, FRM, or an actuarial designation. Preferred.
- 5Hands-on experience using large language models in your professional finance work, plus the ability to tell a well-reasoned answer from a plausible-sounding wrong one.
- 6Ability to commit to 40 hours per week for an initial engagement of 6 months.
- 7Bay Area residence or willingness to relocate there at your own cost, with on-site presence required multiple days each week. Relocation assistance is not provided.
- 8Excellent written communication and the ability to give precise, structured written feedback.
Who Should Apply
The right person is a practicing senior finance professional with deep expertise in at least one core discipline, not someone whose finance experience is peripheral. You should already use LLMs in your daily work and be able to articulate why a financial answer holds up under scrutiny. The role is less suitable for candidates seeking remote work or a freelance side project. Rejections often come from finance experience that is too general, no hands-on AI/LLM usage, or an unwillingness to relocate to the Bay Area without employer support.
Salary Insight
The pay is $60 to $100 per hour, with W-2 employment through Cincinnatus LLC. Given the senior IC or leadership expectations, the upper part of the range reflects a premium for deep domain expertise applied to AI model evaluation. Actual placement depends on the finance discipline, seniority, and AI fluency.
