Overview

Handshake AI hires intensivists for part-time, project-based work that improves how AI models handle critical care medicine. You bring hands-on ICU experience across respiratory failure, shock, sepsis, resuscitation, and multi-organ support to judge model output. Projects open through the year across different specialties, and you can fit them around your current clinical role. Expect to review AI responses, test model reasoning, and write feedback that reflects real critical care practice.

What You'll Do4

  • Build expert-level tasks from real ICU workflows: rapid assessment of ICU patients, ventilator management, hemodynamic and shock care, sepsis treatment, point-of-care ultrasound, and care planning.
  • Assess AI-generated answers for clinical accuracy, patient safety, and consistency with current critical care guidelines.
  • Write clear, structured feedback that shows where a model's reasoning falls short and how to correct it.
  • Complete project tasks on your own schedule, with no minimum hour requirement and no fixed shift.

Requirements10

  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.
  • Completed residency plus fellowship training in critical care medicine.
  • Active license to practice medicine in the United States.
  • Clinical depth in at least one area: medical critical care, surgical and trauma critical care, neurocritical care, cardiac and cardiovascular critical care, respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation, ECMO, sepsis and shock, resuscitation, or point-of-care ultrasound in the ICU.
  • US work authorization.
  • Strong written communication and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain complex critical care concepts in plain language.
  • Comfort working on your own in a remote, asynchronous setting.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in critical care medicine, or a second fellowship in a subspecialty.
  • Experience at an academic medical center or teaching hospital, peer-reviewed publications, clinical research, or work with AI-assisted medical tools.

Who Should Apply

A practicing intensivist with a US medical license, completed critical care fellowship, and comfort across ICU domains such as medical, surgical, neuro, or cardiac care. You can explain complex cases in writing and want project-based work that fits around clinical duties.
