Insurance Expert - AI Lab Project (Remote)
Listing checked September 17, 2026 · pay as published by Mercor
Overview
Mercor partners with a leading AI lab on a project that turns real insurance work into training material for AI systems. You will apply your own practice in underwriting, claims, actuarial analysis, or a related specialty to write realistic scenarios and assess model outputs. The engagement is remote and paid by the hour, and you can focus on the area where your expertise runs deepest.
What You'll Do7
- 1Design insurance tasks that mirror your day-to-day work, such as risk assessment, underwriting decisions, claims adjudication, policy interpretation, coverage analysis, actuarial pricing, reserving, or compliance reviews.
- 2Review AI-generated insurance answers for accuracy, sound professional judgment, and alignment with regulations and industry standards.
- 3Write structured examples that capture how insurance professionals reason through coverage disputes, rating questions, and claim outcomes.
- 4Give clear written feedback that helps the research team improve model performance on insurance tasks.
- 5Compare model outputs with accepted practice and flag gaps in logic, documentation, or regulatory fit.
- 6Work with researchers on an asynchronous schedule and share updates in writing.
- 7Contribute in your strongest specialty while staying open to related insurance workflows.
Requirements6
- 13+ years of professional experience in insurance, with work in underwriting, claims, actuarial, risk management, brokerage, compliance, or a related practice.
- 2The team prefers a credential such as CPCU, ARM, AINS, CLU, AIC, ACAS/FCAS, ASA/FSA, or a state adjuster or broker license.
- 3Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 4Comfort with policy administration, claims, and rating platforms, plus Excel.
- 5Strong written communication and close attention to detail.
- 6Ability to break down complex insurance decisions into clear steps for a research audience.
Who Should Apply
The strongest applicants bring at least three years of hands-on insurance work and can point to a specialty, such as underwriting, claims, actuarial, or compliance. A current credential like CPCU, ARM, or a state license adds weight, and so does comfort with policy admin or claims systems. People without direct insurance practice, or those who have only studied the field, tend to score lower on this project. A common reason candidates get rejected is failing to show how they make real decisions, such as how they assess risk, interpret a policy, or settle a claim, rather than just listing job titles.
