Actuary Expert - Remote Contract Position
Listing checked September 22, 2026 · pay as published by AfterQuery
Overview
AfterQuery seeks credentialed actuaries to join a contract team that builds evaluation and training data for frontier AI labs. You will work with finance domain content, review AI-generated analysis, and help models reason about pricing, reserving, and risk modeling. The engagement runs 10 hours per week, stays remote and async, and pays between $80 and $150 per hour. SOA or CAS credentials, or substantial exam progress, anchor the work.
What You'll Do6
- 1Check AI-written actuarial analysis for mistakes in formulas, assumptions, and conclusions.
- 2Score and label model outputs against recognized actuarial standards of practice.
- 3Build sample workflows that show how actuaries make pricing, reserving, and valuation decisions.
- 4Write clear explanations for each rating so lab teams can trace the expert judgment behind it.
- 5Compare model responses across life, health, P&C, or pension scenarios when the task calls for it.
- 6Provide feedback that helps labs improve how models handle actuarial questions.
Requirements6
- 1Hold an SOA or CAS credential such as ASA, FSA, ACAS, or FCAS, or show progress with at least three actuarial exams.
- 2Bring two or more years of actuarial work in pricing, reserving, valuation, or modeling.
- 3Demonstrate strong writing skills, since you will explain and defend your evaluations.
- 4Preferred: an FSA or FCAS designation.
- 5Preferred: experience in life, health, P&C, or pensions.
- 6Preferred: hands-on use of Axis, Prophet, R, or Python for actuarial modeling.
Who Should Apply
Credentialed actuaries with at least two years in pricing, reserving, valuation, or modeling fit this contract best. You should feel comfortable reading an AI-generated actuarial memo, spotting where the reasoning breaks, and writing a concise review of it. Candidates who hold an FSA or FCAS and have worked across life, health, P&C, or pensions will stand out. The role is less suitable for people without an SOA/CAS credential or meaningful exam progress, or for those who have never written technical actuarial assessments. Applications often lose points when candidates list exams without dates or credentials without a membership number, or when they cannot point to specific modeling tools and insurance domains.
Salary Insight
Pay runs from $80 to $150 per hour for this contract, with a commitment of 10 hours per week. The range matches credentialed actuaries and advanced exam candidates who can review complex work, and it tends to sit above entry-level actuarial roles because of the specialized AI evaluation focus. Total pay across the week depends on hours worked and where you fall in the range.

Application Tip
When you apply, put your SOA or CAS credential and membership number at the top of your resume, along with the actuarial exams you have passed and the dates. Then add one or two bullets that tie your pricing, reserving, valuation, or modeling work to a measurable outcome, such as a reserve review or a product launch. Mention any experience with Axis, Prophet, R, or Python because those tools signal fit for the AI evaluation tasks.
