Insurance Policy Analyst - Remote Contract
Listing checked September 22, 2026 · pay as published by AfterQuery
Overview
AfterQuery, a Y Combinator-backed research lab, needs an Insurance Policy Analyst for a remote contract project. You will review policy language, coverage forms, endorsements, and exclusions across several lines of business. The work runs on an asynchronous schedule over the next two to three weeks, with 10 to 20 hours per week assigned on a project basis. Your analysis will cover coverage determinations, policy comparisons, gap assessments, and compliance with filing and regulatory rules. Expect a part-time schedule that fits alongside other commitments.
What You'll Do5
- 1Take on project assignments and deliver 10 to 20 hours of asynchronous work each week.
- 2Read and explain policy language, coverage forms, endorsements, and exclusions across property and casualty, commercial, life, health, or specialty lines.
- 3Evaluate coverage decisions, compare policies, spot coverage gaps, and verify compliance with filing and regulatory requirements.
- 4Judge whether policy interpretations and coverage conclusions hold up as accurate, well supported, and consistent with industry standards.
- 5Write up your reasoning and technical judgments in a clear, reproducible format.
Requirements9
- 11 to 3 years of full-time or equivalent work as a policy analyst, coverage analyst, policy services specialist, compliance analyst, or similar role.
- 2Working knowledge of policy structure: declarations, insuring agreements, conditions, exclusions, and endorsements.
- 3Proven ability to interpret policy language on your own and support coverage conclusions with clear reasoning.
- 4Solid grasp of insurance fundamentals: forms, filings, rating factors, limits, deductibles, and regulatory requirements.
- 5Bachelor's degree or higher in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6Preferred: experience across several lines of business, such as property and casualty, commercial, life, health, or specialty.
- 7Preferred: industry designations or progress toward CPCU, AINS, API, ARM, or state licenses.
- 8Preferred: familiarity with ISO forms, state filing requirements, or NAIC model laws.
- 9Preferred: hands-on exposure to policy administration and analysis tools like Guidewire, Duck Creek, Applied Epic, or similar.
Who Should Apply
Ideal candidates bring 1 to 3 years in a policy analyst, coverage analyst, or compliance analyst seat and can point to coverage conclusions they reached on their own. You know policy structure cold, from declarations and insuring agreements to conditions, exclusions, and endorsements. Experience across several lines of business, progress toward a CPCU or ARM designation, or work with ISO forms will set your application apart. The role suits someone who can commit 10 to 20 hours per week for two to three weeks and document reasoning in a reproducible way. Candidates who lack direct policy interpretation experience, who cannot show how they supported a coverage position with evidence, or who list insurance interest without hands-on form, endorsement, or compliance work often score low.
Salary Insight
Pay for this contract ranges from $50.00 to $100.00 per hour, based on the listing. For part-time insurance policy analysis work, that band matches analysts who can show direct policy interpretation and coverage reasoning experience. Your exact rate within the range will depend on your years of experience, the lines of business you know, and any designations you hold.
