Hardware Expert | $50-$100/hr Remote
Overview
A remote, contract-based role for a CAD and mechanical-design specialist to contribute to an AI training project. You’ll translate dimensioned drawings into precise 3D solid models, using Python to generate or automate geometry, and export results as STEP files for validation against strict geometric and physical specs. Strong spatial reasoning and a knack for interpreting schematics are essential. The work centers on technical drawings, computational geometry, and programmatic CAD in a global, flexible schedule.
What You'll Do8
- 1Interpret dimensions and geometric relationships from technical drawings to guide 3D modeling
- 2Convert 2D schematics into accurate solid models with complex curved geometry
- 3Break down intricate components into appropriate geometric features for CAD workflows
- 4Model curved profiles, sweeps, lofts, fillets, chamfers, and Boolean operations in your CAD tool
- 5Use Python to automate CAD tasks or generate geometry and export watertight STEP files
- 6Validate dimensions, topology, volume, surface area, and inertia properties against specs
- 7Identify and diagnose subtle differences between expected and produced geometry to ensure accuracy
- 8Deliver reproducible CAD solutions suitable for clean technical environments
Requirements6
- 1Strong Python programming ability
- 2Hands-on experience with 3D CAD or computational geometry
- 3Ability to read and interpret dimensioned engineering drawings and schematics
- 4Excellent 3D spatial reasoning and a high degree of geometric precision
- 5Experience validating or troubleshooting CAD models
- 6Familiarity with tools such as build123d, CadQuery, FreeCAD, OpenCascade, Fusion 360, Onshape, SolidWorks, trimesh, or similar (no single tool is mandatory)
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate is a CAD specialist or mechanical designer who can demonstrate Python-driven CAD work and a track record interpreting engineering drawings. This role suits those comfortable with a contractor setup and who can start quickly in a flexible, remote environment. It is less suitable for anyone seeking hardware electronics support or roles with fixed full-time hours. Common fit concerns include limited Python experience or insufficient hands-on CAD validation work, and candidates who haven’t shown ability to produce watertight STEP models or manage geometric accuracy across complex features.
Salary Insight
Pay ranges from $50 to $100 per hour and is task-based rather than time-based. Pay is discussed after task acceptance; no numbers beyond the stated range are provided here.
