FreeCAD Specialist for AI CAD Training Content
Overview
Remote, hourly contract centered on creating and documenting FreeCAD tasks for AI model training. You will design scenarios that exercise the Sketcher and Part Design workbenches and address topology naming and constraint challenges that arise in real projects. You will specify how to verify outcomes, so the AI can be scored on dimensioned drawings and fully constrained sketches, with parameter-driven behavior reflected in TechDraw outputs. Your deliverables include production-ready task briefs, end-to-end demonstrations, and clear workflow notes to support QA and model evaluation.
What You'll Do7
- 1Create realistic FreeCAD tasks that mirror engineering deliverables, modeling parts to a dimensioned drawing, building parametric families, and composing assemblies with mating constraints.
- 2Record end-to-end demonstrations using our capture tools, documenting the sequence of actions, interface states, and resulting files for each task.
- 3Document the workflow steps and rationale in clear, reproducible notes so another engineer can reproduce the task.
- 4Define precise verification criteria that distinguish dimensionally correct work from well-formed structures, and specify checkpoints for partial attempts.
- 5Produce tasks ranging from a single sketch and pad operation to multi-step workflows spanning cross-application steps such as PDFs, spreadsheets, and data exported to STEP formats.
- 6Review submissions for realism, completeness, and alignment with the stated success criteria.
- 7Ensure all work adheres to project standards, including confidentiality and approved tool usage, and avoid exposing client geometry in recordings.
Requirements11
- 12–5 years of professional experience in mechanical design or CAD-related roles.
- 2Genuine FreeCAD proficiency with fluent Sketcher and Part Design skills; ability to build a solid feature tree.
- 3Strong parametric modeling fundamentals: fully-constrained sketches, datum planes and local coordinates, expressions and spreadsheet-driven parameters, and awareness of topological naming.
- 4Troubleshooting ability to diagnose constraint solver failures, over-constrained sketches, broken references after upstream edits, and booleans failing on non-manifold or self-intersecting geometry.
- 5Working knowledge of at least two additional FreeCAD workbenches relevant to real workflows such as Assembly, TechDraw, Draft, FEM, or CAM/Path.
- 6File-format fluency: STEP, IGES, BREP, STL/mesh, and the practical implications of moving between solid and mesh representations.
- 7A computer meeting OS requirements (Windows 11, Ubuntu, or macOS) capable of running FreeCAD with a screen recorder.
- 8Comfort being screen-recorded and the discipline to keep client confidentiality and geometry out of frame.
- 9English proficiency at B2 or higher with clear written workflow documentation.
- 10Ability to apply rubrics consistently and make repeatable quality judgments across many similar tasks.
- 11Highly detail-oriented and self-directed with strong asynchronous work habits.
Who Should Apply
Ideal candidates bring 2–5 years of CAD experience with deep FreeCAD fluency, particularly with Sketcher and Part Design. You will excel at documenting workflows, writing objective task criteria, and producing reproducible demonstrations for AI training. This remote, contract-friendly role suits self-motivated professionals who communicate clearly in English and can maintain confidentiality. It is less suitable for applicants without hands-on FreeCAD experience or who cannot provide reproducible task records and verifiable outcomes.
Salary Insight
$30/hr. This hourly engagement aligns with project-based CAD training tasks used to evaluate AI models.
