Forward Deployed Engineer for Government AI Systems
Overview
This full-time, remote role targets an experienced engineer to work on applied AI for government missions, from prototype to production. You’ll help build agentic AI systems, run multi‑agent and tool‑using workflows, and implement RAG and human‑in‑the‑loop autonomy. You’ll collaborate with government partners in forward‑deployed settings to translate mission needs into technical solutions. Expect work that spans data curation, model evaluation pipelines, and infrastructure for inference and deployment across frontier AI platforms. You will own these systems end‑to‑end, including discovery, architecture, deployment, reliability, and iteration. Bold: Python, LLM systems, data pipelines, distributed systems.
What You'll Do7
- 1Build and deploy agentic AI solutions from prototype to production for high‑impact government missions.
- 2Design and integrate LLM applications including multi‑agent and tool‑using agents, RAG workflows, and human‑in‑the‑loop autonomy.
- 3Partner directly with government teams in forward‑deployed environments to turn mission needs into technical deliverables.
- 4Create and maintain end‑to‑end data pipelines and evaluation work streams for model training and improvement.
- 5Develop infrastructure supporting model inference, experimentation, evaluation, and deployment across frontier AI platforms.
- 6Develop AI systems that translate mission data, models, and tools into autonomous, operational capabilities.
- 7Own the full lifecycle of systems from discovery through architecture, implementation, deployment, reliability, and iteration.
Requirements3
- 1Strong Python engineer with demonstrated end‑to‑end ownership of projects.
- 2Experience building or maintaining data pipelines or ML infrastructure.
- 3Hands‑on work with LLMs and agentic system design.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has proven autonomy in ambiguous, partner‑facing settings and can take ownership of both technical and operational outcomes. They should have hands‑on experience with Python, LLMs, and data pipelines, and be comfortable in high‑security, high‑reliability environments. The role may not be a fit for someone without prior government, defense, or national security mission experience, or someone who has not worked in fast‑moving settings. Common fit issues include limited experience translating mission needs into technical systems and limited willingness to relocate to the DC area for on‑site collaboration.
Salary Insight
Pay is presented as an annual base range of $150,000–$250,000, with equity and potential performance bonuses; details discussed during later stages.
