Forward Deployed Engineer for U S Government Systems
Listing checked September 4, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
The role focuses on building and deploying AI systems for high-stakes government work, from early experiments to production. You’ll work on model experimentation, infrastructure, and deployment in secure, mission-critical settings, including forward-deployed projects with partners. You’ll collaborate across research and production teams to turn mission needs into reliable technical solutions. Expect to handle data curation and evaluation pipelines and contribute to inference, experimentation, and deployment on frontier AI platforms. Key efforts center on turning data, models, and tools into autonomous operational capabilities while owning the full system lifecycle.
What You'll Do6
- 1Develop and launch agentic AI solutions that progress from prototype to production for U.S. government missions.
- 2Design and integrate applications using LLMs including multi-agent systems, tool-using agents, RAG workflows, and human-in-the-loop autonomy.
- 3Collaborate directly with government partners in forward-deployed contexts to translate mission requirements into technical architectures and implementations.
- 4Create and maintain large-scale data pipelines for model training, evaluation, and improvement.
- 5Build infrastructure for model inference, experimentation, evaluation, and deployment across advanced AI platforms.
- 6Contribute to end-to-end system ownership covering discovery, architecture, implementation, deployment, reliability, security, and iteration.
Requirements5
- 1Strong Python engineering experience with end-to-end ownership of projects.
- 2Hands-on experience with LLMs and building agentic systems.
- 3Proficiency in designing and maintaining data pipelines or ML infrastructure.
- 4Familiarity with RL workflows or simulation environments is a plus.
- 5Comfort working in high-security, high-reliability environments and in partner-facing settings.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate brings hands-on Python expertise and has built or maintained ML infrastructure and LLM-driven systems. They should be comfortable translating government needs into practical technical solutions and operate effectively in forward-deployed, partner-facing roles. This position is less suitable for someone without experience in secure environments or without a background in data pipelines or agentic AI architectures. Common fit checks include demonstrated end-to-end project ownership and prior work with LLMs or multi-agent setups.
