Overview
micro1 seeks a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer to lead applied AI work for U.S. Government partners. The role blends model experimentation, infrastructure, and deployment in high-assurance settings. You will own complex initiatives, make architectural calls, and turn mission needs into production AI systems. Expect to work onsite in the Greater Washington DC area 3-4 times per week.
What You'll Do8
- Guide the design and launch of agentic AI systems for government missions, from early prototype through production.
- Build and integrate LLM applications, including multi-agent setups, tool-using agents, RAG workflows, and human-in-the-loop autonomy.
- Act as a senior technical partner to government stakeholders, converting mission requirements into scalable, dependable systems.
- Lead the creation of large-scale data curation and evaluation pipelines for model training and improvement.
- Scale infrastructure for model inference, experimentation, evaluation, and deployment across frontier AI platforms.
- Develop AI systems that turn mission data, models, and tools into operational autonomy.
- Own the full technical lifecycle: architecture, implementation, deployment, reliability, security, and iteration.
- Make technical decisions, solve complex engineering problems, and mentor other engineers.
Requirements8
- Extensive professional software engineering experience with a record of owning and delivering complex, production-grade systems.
- Advanced Python engineering skills and demonstrated end-to-end technical ownership.
- Hands-on experience developing and deploying LLM applications and agentic AI systems.
- Experience designing and scaling data pipelines, ML infrastructure, and model evaluation systems.
- Familiarity with RL workflows, simulation environments, or model experimentation.
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, make architectural decisions, and mentor engineers.
- Capacity to operate independently in ambiguous, partner-facing environments with strong technical and operational accountability.
- Comfort working in high-security, high-reliability, mission-critical settings.
Who Should Apply
Engineers with deep Python skills and a track record of shipping agentic AI and LLM systems in production. You have scaled ML infrastructure and evaluation pipelines, and you are ready to lead technical work with government partners. An active U.S. security clearance or eligibility to obtain one is preferred.
