Financial Crime, AML & KYC Analyst | $75-$100/hr Remote
Overview
This contract role centers on creating realistic financial crime casework from mock files, not live systems. You'll work through synthetic alert packets, KYC onboarding reviews, and sanctions hits, then produce deliverables like SAR narratives and remediation lists that match real-world standards. Each exercise is graded against a rubric, and your submissions become drafts for the company's analytical library. Expect about 15 hours weekly, fully remote, with pay between $75 and $100 per hour based on experience.
What You'll Do5
- 1Examine transaction monitoring alerts using the alert packet, KYC/CDD profile, and transaction history to determine the right action, then document your decision and write a SAR narrative when needed.
- 2Scrutinize client onboarding and KYC packets for missing information or inconsistencies across documents, and generate a clear remediation list.
- 3Disentangle multi-layered ownership structures to find ultimate beneficial owners, applying 10% and 25% ownership thresholds correctly.
- 4Assess sanctions and adverse media hits to classify each as a true match, false positive, or escalation, and support your verdict with a concise rationale.
- 5Prioritize supervisory alert queues, handle card fraud and dispute cases, and cross-reference flagged communications against trade records to determine next steps.
Requirements3
- 1At least three years of hands-on experience in AML, financial crime, KYC/CDD, sanctions screening, fraud or dispute handling, or transaction surveillance at a bank, fintech, payments firm, or MSB.
- 2Working knowledge of FinCEN, FATF, and OFAC frameworks, with practical experience in producing SAR and CDD documentation that meets those standards.
- 3Strong written communication skills, able to explain your reasoning in a clear, defensible way that stands up to regulatory review.
Who Should Apply
This role suits an analyst with three or more years in financial crime compliance who can work independently on case exercises and articulate decisions crisply on paper. If you prefer live system access or a predictable full-time schedule, this contract likely isn't a fit. Many applicants miss out because they lack direct SAR writing or sanctions adjudication experience, or they fail the timed assessment due to slow, unclear documentation. Having a CAMS/ACAMS or CFE credential, or experience with enhanced due diligence and entity unwinding, gives you a clear edge.
Salary Insight
The pay is set at $75-$100 per hour, which lands above the typical contracting range for AML/KYC analysts with this level of specialized expertise. This rate reflects the part-time, short-term nature of the work and the demand for precise regulatory knowledge.

Application Tip
Before you apply, pull up a real or sample SAR narrative you've written and practice refining it to show you can produce clear, defensible rationales quickly. Highlight any direct experience with OFAC sanctions screening or UBO threshold calculations in your resume, as those areas are heavily weighted in the assessment.
