Explosives & Energetic Materials Expert (Remote)
Listing checked September 16, 2026 · pay as published by SME Careers
Overview
Remote, full-time role auditing AI models for handling explosives and energetic materials questions. Classify each user prompt as benign, dual-use, or adversarial, and evaluate all three model outputs for safety and accuracy. Rank the three responses and craft the recommended final answer the model should have produced for the user query. This role blends domain expertise with AI governance to support reliable, regulation-aware model behavior.
What You'll Do8
- 1Classify user requests as benign, dual-use, or adversarial and assign a risk category based on domain considerations.
- 2Assess all three model outputs for safety, factual accuracy, and alignment with explosives safety knowledge.
- 3Rank the model responses against criteria of safety, clarity, and usefulness to guide improvements.
- 4Draft the precise final answer the model should provide, including justifications and safe handling notes.
- 5Develop AI training prompts and content focused on explosives safety and energetic materials to steer model behavior.
- 6Define and apply evaluation rubrics for model performance, including checks for bias and reliability across scenarios.
- 7Verify overall model integrity by testing responses for inaccuracies or unsafe guidance in high-stakes contexts.
- 8Document results in a standardized format to support ongoing audits and iterative improvements.
Requirements5
- 15+ years of hands-on field experience in commercial blasting, energetic materials, propellant chemistry, or pyrotechnics.
- 2Experience as a commercial blasting engineer or mining/quarry explosives specialist, or equivalent roles such as military or police EOD bomb technician, energetic materials chemist, post-blast investigator, or explosives safety regulator (ATF, HSE, DoD).
- 3Relevant degree or certification in mining, chemistry, explosives safety, or a closely related field.
- 4Proven experience writing incident reports, safety cases, or expert opinions is highly valued.
- 5Strong written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, self-directed setting.
Who Should Apply
Commercial blasting engineers and energetic materials specialists with hands-on field experience. Militaries or police EOD personnel, propellant chemists, and pyrotechnics experts are a good fit. Post-blast investigators, forensic examiners, and explosives safety regulators (for example ATF, HSE, or DoD equivalents) align well with the role. Eligible candidates include US, UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

Mercor
VerifiedEnergetic Materials Red Teaming Expert (Remote)
The panel tests frontier AI models on how they handle explosive and energetic materials requests. You write single-turn prompts split into benign, dual-use, and adversarial levels, then judge model replies against a fixed policy. Your reference answers show what a sound response looks like and explain the technical reasoning behind that call. The work matters because models both refuse routine mining or investigation questions and answer dangerous requests dressed as academic work. Energetic materials, red teaming, and AI evaluation sit at the center of the task.

Mercor
VerifiedPublic Safety Hazardous Device Specialist (Remote)
Neon needs public safety practitioners to red-team frontier AI models that handle dangerous technical requests. You will write single-turn prompts in the hazardous device domain, label each one as benign, dual-use, or adversarial, then judge how the model responds against a policy standard. Your day-to-day work centers on render-safe procedures, post-blast investigation, and CBRNE response, where routine professional questions sit close to misuse scenarios. Every judgment you make comes with a written rationale, including a reference answer that shows what a correct response looks like and why. The engagement runs remote and task-based, with a one-time payment of $75.

Mercor
VerifiedCommercial Blasting Engineer - Remote Contract
Neon needs licensed blasting professionals for a remote, task-based project that red-teams frontier AI models. You will craft single-turn prompts across three labels: benign, dual-use, and adversarial, all tied to commercial blasting practice. The work hinges on the dual-use line, where a routine vibration compliance question sits close to a misuse request about magazine inventory or transport. After models respond, you score each answer against a policy standard and write the reference solution with technical reasoning. Pay is a $75 one-time fee, and the role demands sustained writing about misuse scenarios in your field.

Mercor
VerifiedFederal Materials Specialist - Incident Analyst
A panel of energetic materials and propulsion experts will red-team frontier AI models. The goal: test whether a model can judge misuse potential in a technical request, answering legitimate questions while refusing dangerous ones. You will write single-turn prompts labeled benign, dual-use, and adversarial, then evaluate model responses against a policy standard. For each prompt, you also write the reference answer and the technical reasoning behind it. The domain sits on the dual-use line, where routine residue analysis can look like a recipe in reverse.

VerifiedChemical Safety Expert Remote AI Model Safety Audit
Remote role for a Chemical Safety Expert focused on auditing AI model safety in chemical contexts. You will review a user request alongside three model outputs to determine safety and accuracy. The work produces recorded rationales and ranked results to guide safe AI usage in chemical domains. Collaboration with AI safety engineers and regulatory specialists ensures alignment with chemical safety standards.

Mercor
VerifiedPropulsion & Effects Engineer - Remote AI Red Teaming
This task-based remote project brings together propulsion and energetic materials specialists to red-team frontier AI models. The panel tests whether a model can judge the misuse potential of a technical request: answering legitimate questions and refusing dangerous ones. You will write single-turn prompts across three labels, benign, dual-use, and adversarial, then review model responses against a policy standard. The domain sits on the dual-use line, where the same analysis that qualifies a motor for flight also describes a capability. This work needs practitioners because generalists struggle to draw that line with consistency.
