Company Analysis Expert: Event Propagation - Remote
Listing checked September 15, 2026 · pay as published by Mercor
Overview
You will contribute to a dataset that tests and improves AI models on genuine financial analysis. Each assignment sets a strict evidence cutoff, so you reason as a strong analyst would at that moment, without hindsight. Your focus is event propagation: pinpointing companies tied to an upcoming event and projecting how the catalyst moves through each one. The work demands mapping economic networks from primary filings and judging model outputs.
What You'll Do4
- 1Trace a company's economic web (suppliers, customers, competitors, distributors, substitutes, geographic reach) from EDGAR filings, footnotes, exhibits, transcripts, and industry data.
- 2Distinguish direct exposure from flimsy thematic links when identifying companies tied to an upcoming event.
- 3Project direction, magnitude, time horizon, and confidence for each company, and specify the revenue, margin, earnings, or valuation mechanism behind the move.
- 4Evaluate model-generated analyses and score them against your own benchmarks.
Requirements5
- 1You bring senior-level experience as a sector PM, lead equity analyst, or event-driven investor, with deep knowledge of one industry.
- 2You have hands-on experience mapping a company's economic network from primary filings, not from screens or third-party tags.
- 3You have 8+ years of direct experience, or outstanding evidence of equivalent performance.
- 4Your background may include top multi-manager/event-driven funds, leading sector teams at major asset managers and banks, or elite specialist research firms such as Citadel, Millennium, Point72, Balyasny, D. E. Shaw, or top sell-side sector franchises. Brand-name experience helps but is not required; direct experience and work sample performance determine fit.
- 5You can reason from a fixed evidence cutoff without hindsight, data leakage, confidential information, or material non-public information, demonstrating point-in-time discipline.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has spent years as a sector PM, lead equity analyst, or event-driven investor, and knows one industry inside and out. You map economic networks from EDGAR filings and other primary sources, not from screens or third-party tags. If your experience centers on thematic or screen-based work, you will struggle here. Hiring teams often reject candidates who lack point-in-time discipline or who fail to show direct exposure mapping. This role suits someone who has 8+ years in the trenches and can document analytical judgment without the benefit of later information.
