Investment Banking Expert – Remote Contract
Listing checked September 15, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 is hiring Investment Banking Experts for a contract role that supports a client's initiative to improve financial data analysis, modeling, and industry research. You will use your deal experience to help train next-generation AI systems, shaping how models learn and reason from real-world financial input. The work centers on financial modeling, comparable company analysis, and pitchbook preparation. No AI background is needed. Your domain knowledge is the key contribution.
What You'll Do7
- 1Carry out in-depth company and industry research that feeds into AI training datasets.
- 2Run and review buyer or target screening, comparable company analysis, and financial modeling exercises.
- 3Create, refresh, and debug Excel-based valuation and transaction models, checking methodology and logical flow.
- 4Draft and refine materials similar to client presentations or pitchbooks, capturing transaction execution scenarios and strategic rationale.
- 5Evaluate sample materials for numerical errors, weak strategy, or unclear logic, then give specific feedback for improvement.
- 6Clarify accounting treatments, valuation adjustments, deal sensitivities, and how key assumptions drive analytical results.
- 7Provide clear written and verbal explanations of complex financial concepts for varied audiences.
Requirements7
- 1Prior experience as a former Senior Associate (ideally third-year) or Vice President in an M&A or industry-coverage team at a leading investment bank, established M&A boutique, or sector-focused advisory firm.
- 2Hands-on involvement in live acquisition or sale processes, with a record of high-quality analysis and client-facing deliverables.
- 3Proven ability to both produce and review analytical and presentation materials to senior banker or client standards.
- 4Advanced Excel modeling skills, including troubleshooting, scenario analysis, and presenting outputs with clear rationale.
- 5Direct experience with company and industry research, target screening, comps analysis, and pitchbook preparation.
- 6Strong written and verbal communication, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and actionable feedback.
- 7Aptitude for spotting and articulating quantitative inaccuracies and strategic weaknesses in transaction materials.
Who Should Apply
This role fits former investment banking Senior Associates or Vice Presidents who have worked on live M&A or coverage deals and are comfortable building and reviewing complex Excel models. Candidates who can explain valuation adjustments, accounting treatments, and deal sensitivities to different audiences will do well. The role is less suitable for those without direct transaction experience or who have not prepared client-facing pitchbooks. A common reason candidates get rejected is lacking hands-on exposure to live acquisition or sale processes. Another is weak attention to detail when reviewing models or materials for numerical errors and strategic gaps.

Micro1
VerifiedInvestment Banking Expert
This remote contract role puts your investment banking expertise to work in a unique way — helping train next-generation AI systems. You won't need prior AI experience; your deep knowledge of financial analysis, deal structuring, and market trends is exactly what's needed to shape how models learn and reason about complex finance scenarios.

Handshake AI
VerifiedFinance Expert - Remote Investment Banking
Handshake AI runs a year-round program that places finance professionals on short project engagements. You will review AI-generated financial analyses, check valuation logic, and assess transaction scenarios through an investment banking lens. The work happens remote and asynchronous, with flexible hours and no minimum weekly commitment. Projects open at different times across domains, so your start date depends on when a finance project becomes available. Your financial modeling, valuation, and deal execution experience shapes how AI systems handle investment banking workflows.

Mercor
VerifiedInvestment Banking Expert - Remote Part-Time
Mercor keeps a standing pool of investment bankers who help grade and improve frontier AI models. You join a network, not one specific project, and clients draw from it when they need banking judgment. Assignments can involve building a three-statement model and an LBO from filings, then writing the rubric a grader uses. Other work includes reviewing AI-generated comps and precedent transactions or scoring model-drafted pitch material against what an MD would send. Rates have landed between $100 and $130 an hour, set by project scope.

AfterQuery
VerifiedFinance Expert - Early Career Remote Contract
AfterQuery, a YC-backed company, works with top AI labs to improve how models handle real-world financial judgment. As a remote contract Finance Expert, you will use Excel, PowerPoint and financial reasoning to recreate the analyses, models and memos found in investment banking, private equity and hedge fund work. Projects run on a flexible, self-paced schedule, with about 10 to 15 hours per week when active. The listing notes a 40-hour weekly commitment and pay at $50.00 per hour. You will build finance problem sets, write clear explanations and review AI-generated outputs for accuracy and realism.

AfterQuery
VerifiedInvestment Banking & Private Equity Expert - Remote
AfterQuery seeks finance professionals for a remote contract role that mirrors the work of an investment banking or private equity analyst. You will build financial models, run valuations such as DCF, LBO and APV, and apply accounting rules to cases involving NOLs, DTAs and operating leases. Projects run over 2 to 3 weeks and stay asynchronous, with 10 to 20 hours of work per week for each project you accept. The company is a Y Combinator-backed startup, and the listing highlights resume value from hands-on financial analysis.

Mercor
VerifiedInvestment Finance Expert - Remote Contract
Mercor seeks finance practitioners to author and judge training tasks for AI agents. You will pull real scenarios from your domain, covering areas such as M&A valuation, LBO modeling, FP&A, private credit, and risk work, then build models, memos, filings, and data sets that support those problems. The work centers on judgment and authorship, not volume processing. You set the analytical bar, write tasks, and score agent output against professional standards. A commitment of at least 10 hours per week keeps the project moving.
