Overview

micro1 seeks Certified Inpatient Coders for a project that improves medical data accuracy and integrity. You will apply your inpatient coding expertise to help train next-generation AI systems, shaping how models learn and reason from real-world clinical input. The work centers on ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding, MS-DRG validation, and review of AI-generated clinical notes. This is a remote contractor role open to coders in the United States.

What You'll Do8

  • Analyze inpatient medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes that follow current official guidelines.
  • Check clinical documentation for completeness, accuracy, and coding integrity.
  • Determine principal and secondary diagnoses, sequence codes per the Official Guidelines, and assign Present on Admission (POA) indicators.
  • Validate MS-DRG assignment, including identification of CCs and MCCs, and flag hospital-acquired conditions (HACs) and patient safety indicators.
  • Compare AI-generated clinical notes and summaries against real-world documentation and coding standards.
  • Code diagnostic and procedural information produced by AI from the record using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
  • Find and resolve discrepancies in diagnosis and procedure coding to protect record abstraction and data capture integrity.
  • Write clear feedback on coding errors and complex cases to help improve model performance.

Requirements8

  • Active coding certification such as CIC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, or COC through AHIMA or AAPC.
  • Hands-on inpatient ICD-10-CM/PCS coding experience.
  • Access to current official ICD-10-CM/PCS coding books and Coding Clinic guidance.
  • Current work in inpatient medical coding, clinical documentation improvement, or a closely related documentation role.
  • At least 10 hours of availability per week.
  • Ability to read and interpret inpatient records and clinical documentation.
  • Skill in sequencing diagnoses and procedures according to the Official Guidelines.
  • Familiarity with MS-DRG assignment and CC/MCC identification.

Who Should Apply

Certified inpatient coders with active CIC, CCS, or other AHIMA/AAPC credentials and current hands-on ICD-10-CM/PCS experience. You should be working in inpatient coding or CDI, have current coding references, and can commit at least 10 hours per week.
