Overview

micro1 seeks CCS or CIC certified Medical Coders to support a customer project that trains next-generation AI systems. You will annotate and review inpatient records, assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, and validate MS-DRG assignments. No AI background is needed. Your inpatient coding expertise is what matters.

What You'll Do6

  • 1Review inpatient records such as admission notes, progress notes, operative reports, consults, lab and imaging results, and discharge summaries to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.
  • 2Determine principal and secondary diagnoses, sequence codes per official guidelines, add Present on Admission indicators, and confirm MS-DRG assignment including CCs and MCCs.
  • 3Apply inpatient coding conventions like UHDDS definitions, ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines, and AHA Coding Clinic advice while flagging hospital-acquired conditions and patient safety indicators.
  • 4Work with project stakeholders in writing and on calls to clarify requirements, resolve documentation questions, and protect data integrity.
  • 5Provide detailed feedback on coding guidelines and complex cases to improve project workflows and help AI models learn.
  • 6Check that every coding annotation meets current best practices and coding standards for accuracy and completeness.

Requirements6

  • 1Active AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or AAPC Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) credential.
  • 2Hands-on inpatient coding experience with deep knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and MS-DRG methodology.
  • 3Background coding in varied inpatient settings such as acute care, teaching hospitals, specialty units, surgical, trauma, oncology, cardiology, and transplant cases.
  • 4Skill in reviewing and coding different types of clinical documentation and handling complex coding challenges.
  • 5Clear written and verbal communication with strong attention to detail.
  • 6Access to current ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS code sets, Official Coding Guidelines, and MS-DRG grouper tools.

Who Should Apply

This role fits certified inpatient coders who hold an active CCS or CIC credential and have coded across settings like trauma, oncology, cardiology, or transplant. You should be comfortable reading full inpatient records, applying UHDDS and Official Guidelines, and validating MS-DRG logic. The work is remote and contract-based, so you need your own current code sets and grouper tools. Candidates without inpatient coding experience or without a CCS/CIC often score low because the project requires immediate MS-DRG and POA accuracy. If you prefer outpatient coding or lack recent inpatient documentation review, this is not the right fit.
