Overview

Mercor is collaborating with a top-tier AI research organization to refine the accuracy of protein target data in large bioactivity databases like ChEMBL and BindingDB. In this role, you will dive into scientific literature and apply your expertise to verify whether UniProt IDs correctly match the proteins studied, directly supporting AI-driven drug discovery efforts.

What You'll Do4

  • 1Review primary sources such as research papers and patents to confirm protein target assignments against UniProt records.
  • 2Identify and categorize target assignment errors using a structured classification system.
  • 3Suggest the correct UniProt accession numbers when original assignments are found to be incorrect.
  • 4Write concise, evidence-backed notes that clearly justify your reasoning for each correction.

Requirements4

  • 1A BA/BS with at least 5 years of experience, MS with 2+ years, or a PhD with industry or drug discovery research background in pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or chemical biology, ideally at a biotech, pharma, or CRO.
  • 2Hands-on experience with binding or functional assays such as SPR, TR-FRET, radioligand binding, kinase assays, or GPCR functional assays, including familiarity with IC50/Ki/KD measurements.
  • 3Currently active in a bench or applied research role (scientist, associate scientist, or equivalent).
  • 4Working knowledge of UniProt or related workflows like SAR support, HTS, target validation, biochemical profiling, or IND-enabling studies.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is ideal for a meticulous biology researcher who enjoys detective work in scientific literature and has a strong grasp of protein targets and assay data. You should be comfortable working independently, thrive on detail-oriented verification tasks, and want your expertise to directly enhance AI models used in drug discovery.

Salary Insight

The role offers an hourly rate of $50.00 - $70.00 per hour.

Application Tip

In your application, briefly describe a specific instance where you corrected a target assignment error or validated a protein-ligand interaction from literature — this demonstrates the critical thinking needed for the role.
