Biology & Biophysics Research Collaborator (Part-time) | $80-$110/hr Remote
Overview
This part-time role places you at a leading AI lab, where you'll help train the next generation of scientific reasoning models. As a biology or biophysics researcher, you'll leverage your frontline expertise to evaluate, challenge, and refine how AI systems understand molecular biology, structural biology, immunology, and related fields. It's a unique opportunity to shape AI by contributing the kind of deep, nuanced scientific insight that only active researchers possess.
What You'll Do5
- 1Assess research papers in biology and biophysics, judging their rigor, novelty, and scientific soundness.
- 2Create and critique difficult biology and biophysics problems used to train and benchmark cutting-edge AI systems.
- 3Analyze model outputs on tasks like mechanism prediction, experimental design, and literature interpretation — flagging mistakes a working PhD would instantly catch.
- 4Identify and document areas where current AI models fall short, especially subtle errors tied to frontier research.
- 5Work closely with a small program team and other senior contributors to refine evaluation methods.
Requirements4
- 1A strong publication record, including first-author or co-first-author papers in top-tier journals such as Nature, Science, Cell, PNAS, or Nature Methods.
- 2A PhD or postdoctoral training from a globally recognized top-20 institution in the life sciences or a related STEM field.
- 3Evidence of competitive fellowships (e.g., HHMI, NIH F31/F32/K99, NSF GRFP, Damon Runyon, Helen Hay Whitney, Searle, Pew) or issued patents, a spin-out company, or named grants as Principal or Co-Investigator.
- 4Current or very recent hands-on research experience as a PhD candidate, postdoc, instructor, faculty, principal scientist, or industry researcher.
Who Should Apply
Outstanding senior PhD students, recent graduates, and established researchers who are actively pushing the boundaries in biology or biophysics. If your work involves molecular biology, structural biology, immunology, neuroscience, genomics, or adjacent disciplines and you can spot the kinds of mistakes that only a working researcher would catch, this role is for you. Depth of research output matters more than years of experience.
Salary Insight
Compensation ranges from $80 to $110 per hour, depending on research seniority and credentials. This is a part-time engagement of up to 20 hours per week.
Application Tip
When applying, include a brief paragraph describing a specific recent instance where you identified an error or subtle limitation in a published scientific finding — this directly demonstrates the critical eye this role demands.
