Overview

Turing, a San Francisco-based research accelerator, is hiring a Biology Expert to fine-tune large language models like ChatGPT. You will design challenging biology problems that reveal model limitations, write rigorous step-by-step solutions, and collaborate with LLM researchers on evaluation benchmarks. This remote, freelance contract covers topics from early undergraduate to PhD-level biology. The role builds your AI skills while paying for your scientific expertise.

What You'll Do4

  • 1Construct complex biology problems and solve them to expose weaknesses in LLM reasoning.
  • 2Draft detailed, logically ordered solutions that demonstrate clear reasoning for each step.
  • 3Partner with researchers to target model failure modes such as conceptual abstraction, multi-step logic, and data interpretation.
  • 4Define new biology evaluation benchmarks across undergraduate and graduate curricula.

Requirements8

  • 1Strong research and analytical skills for handling graduate-level biology content.
  • 2Ability to give constructive feedback and write precise annotations.
  • 3Creative and lateral thinking to identify model blind spots.
  • 4Excellent written communication and collaboration in a remote setup.
  • 5Self-motivated and capable of independent work.
  • 6Reliable desktop or laptop with stable internet.
  • 7Pursuing or holding a Master's, PhD, or postdoc in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • 8Skill in explaining biology with simple language, visuals, and simulations.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate is a biology researcher or graduate student who communicates complex ideas with clarity. This role is less suitable for someone wanting employee benefits or full-time security, since it is a contractor assignment without paid leave. Applications often score low when they lack examples of structured problem solving or show weak written explanations. Familiarity with how AI language models process information also strengthens your application.
