Overview

Mercor seeks senior biologists and life scientists to shape how frontier AI models reason about life sciences research. You will assess outputs from large language models, write reference solutions, and design research-level benchmarks in your specialty. Real scientific judgment matters: you catch mechanistic hand-waving, unsupported causal claims, and experimental designs that would fail peer review. The role is remote, based in the United States, and pays $90 to $140 per hour.

What You'll Do6

  • Review life sciences tasks and model outputs for mechanistic errors, unsupported causal claims, weak experimental design, and answers that fail peer-review standards.
  • Write problem statements and reference solutions that match how research in your specialty actually proceeds.
  • Build research-level benchmark problems and evaluation sets for your area of specialization.
  • Compare model outputs against expert criteria and flag plausible but incorrect reasoning.
  • Work with researchers in adjacent fields to convert tacit expert judgment into explicit scoring criteria.
  • Give precise written feedback to task writers and other experts who need clear standards.

Requirements7

  • PhD in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, or a related life science.
  • Senior research appointment such as faculty, principal investigator, staff scientist, senior scientist, or equivalent at a university, academic medical center, national laboratory, or research organization.
  • Deep specialization in one area, such as molecular and cell biology, biochemistry and structural biology, immunology, genetics and genomics, neuroscience, or ecology and evolution.
  • Strong peer-reviewed publication record; competitive fellowships or awards add weight.
  • Direct experience using large language models in scientific work and the ability to separate sound arguments from convincing errors.
  • Excellent written communication and structured feedback.
  • Based in the United States.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate is a senior life sciences researcher with a PhD and active specialization in areas such as immunology, genomics, neuroscience, or cell biology. You have used large language models in your own work and can spot flawed experimental design or unsupported causal claims in a model answer.

Salary Insight

The listing states $90 to $140 per hour. The exact offer should track your seniority, publication record, and how deep your life sciences specialization runs.
