Overview

As a Biochemist SME on SME Careers, you will review AI-generated biochemistry content and craft high-quality reference explanations across topics like metabolism, enzyme kinetics, protein structure, and molecular biology. You will assess accuracy, reasoning, terminology, and step-by-step explanations, delivering precise written feedback to guide model improvements. This remote, hourly contract role supports training data for leading AI labs by ensuring biochemical explanations are clear, correct, and aligned with established science. The work emphasizes identifying unsafe or misleading content, proposing corrections, and producing rewritten model answers that demonstrate robust biochemical reasoning.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Develop AI training prompts and gold-standard biochemistry answers across metabolism, enzyme kinetics, protein structure, molecular biology, lab methods, genetics, and regulation.
  • 2Review AI outputs for scientific accuracy, reasoning quality, terminology, and alignment with the prompt, then provide targeted edits.
  • 3Rate multiple AI responses and produce comparison notes with clear justification and suggested rewrites.
  • 4Detect unsafe or misleading content, hallucinated mechanisms, incorrect pathways, or unsupported claims; document issues and propose fixes.
  • 5Create high-quality rewrites and model answers that illustrate precise biochemical explanations and include proper experimental context and units.
  • 6Maintain a structured feedback rubric, including checks on units, concentrations, reaction directions, and data interpretation.
  • 7Collaborate with content and QA teams to refine prompts and evaluation rubrics used across topics.
  • 8Ensure consistency across remote submissions and meet deadlines in a time-zone aware schedule.

Requirements9

  • 1bachelor's degree or higher in biochemistry, molecular biology, biology, chemistry, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, pharmacology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2strong professional proficiency in English, minimum c1, to follow guidelines and provide detailed feedback.
  • 33+ years of experience in biochemistry research, laboratory work, teaching, tutoring, scientific writing, academic review, life-science QA, or related scientific work.
  • 4deep understanding of proteins, enzymes, metabolism, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids, cell signaling, molecular biology, and biochemical techniques.
  • 5ability to evaluate biochemical explanations, mechanisms, pathways, figures, calculations, and experimental interpretations for scientific accuracy and clarity.
  • 6comfortable identifying hallucinated claims, incorrect mechanisms, unsafe lab advice, flawed reasoning, misleading simplifications, or unsupported statements.
  • 7high attention to detail when reviewing terminology, reaction logic, pathway directionality, units, concentrations, lab protocols, and data interpretation.
  • 8reliable, self-directed, and able to deliver consistent quality in an hourly remote contractor workflow across time zones.
  • 9prior experience with AI data training/annotation, scientific QA, academic QA, content review, or rubric-based evaluation is strongly preferred.

Who Should Apply

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree or higher in biochemistry, molecular biology, biology, chemistry, or related fields and 3+ years of relevant work will excel. Strong professional English proficiency (C1+) enables precise feedback and clear documentation. Remote, hourly contractors who can manage time across time zones and deliver consistent quality fit well. Experience with AI data training, scientific QA, or rubric-based evaluation is a plus; this role may not suit those seeking bench-work or in-person collaboration.
