Audio Engineer (Speech / TTS Audio Specialist) – French | $50/hr Remote
Overview
Mercor is looking for a detail-oriented audio specialist to edit and verify French voice recordings used in speech and TTS systems. In this remote, hourly role, you'll clean up audio, run quality checks, and help build high-quality datasets for machine learning. Native or near-native French fluency is essential for evaluating pronunciation and naturalness.
What You'll Do7
- 1Prepare and refine French-language voice recordings so they're ready for use in TTS and speech AI models.
- 2Clean up raw audio by trimming silences, removing breaths, eliminating clicks and sibilance, and reducing background noise.
- 3Run thorough quality checks to catch clipping, distortion, background noise, and level imbalances, ensuring every file meets specs.
- 4Keep audio in line with strict technical requirements so it's ready for machine-learning training pipelines.
- 5Listen critically to confirm French pronunciation, naturalness, and fluency across all recordings.
- 6Handle large volumes of recordings efficiently while maintaining consistent quality and turnaround.
- 7Work alongside teams managing French speech datasets, voice talent sessions, and model training workflows.
Requirements8
- 1Native or near-native French speaker with a strong ear for French speech nuances.
- 2Proven experience editing speech or voice recordings (not just music production).
- 3Solid grasp of speech audio quality standards and common issues in recorded dialogue.
- 4Hands-on proficiency with audio restoration tools like iZotope RX, Pro Tools, or similar software.
- 5Ability to spot and fix artifacts, inconsistencies, and technical defects in audio.
- 6Experience working with high-volume audio datasets or structured workflows.
- 7Bonus: prior work with TTS vendors or platforms, speech ML, voice AI, or dataset creation/annotation workflows.
- 8Bonus: experience directing or editing French voice talent recordings.
