Overview

Handshake AI seeks practicing architects for a part-time fellowship that supports AI research. You bring your experience in architectural design, building systems, and project delivery across residential, commercial, institutional, or mixed-use work to judge AI output and craft expert tasks. The program runs year-round and opens project opportunities as needs arise, so you can take on assignments alongside your current role. Work happens in a remote setting and on your own schedule, with no minimum hours.

What You'll Do5

  • Build expert-level tasks from real architecture workflows: programming and space planning, schematic design, code and zoning review, construction documentation, detailing, and coordination with engineering consultants.
  • Test AI responses against technical accuracy, code compliance, constructability, and the way architectural work unfolds on real projects.
  • Write structured feedback that points out gaps in reasoning, missing code requirements, or unrealistic construction details.
  • Evaluate content across residential, commercial, institutional, and mixed-use project types.
  • Set your own hours and complete assignments in a remote, asynchronous setting.

Requirements7

  • Completed Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Architecture, or equivalent degree.
  • At least three years of professional architecture experience, including projects that received permits, were built, or gained approval.
  • Depth in one or more areas: schematic design and space planning; building codes, zoning, accessibility, and life safety; construction documents, detailing, and specifications; building envelope, structure, and systems coordination; sustainable and high-performance design; historic preservation, adaptive reuse, or urban design.
  • US work authorization.
  • Strong written communication and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain complex architectural concepts in plain terms.
  • Ability to work on your own in a remote, asynchronous setting.

Preferred Qualifications3

  • Licensure as a US architect (RA) or active progress through the ARE.
  • Proficiency with Revit, ArchiCAD, Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Rhino, or SketchUp, or experience leading BIM coordination.
  • Experience at an architecture firm, design-build firm, or developer, or project leadership through construction administration.

Who Should Apply

Architects with three or more years of practice and permitted, built, or approved projects fit this fellowship. Depth in building codes, construction documents, envelope coordination, or sustainable design helps, as does the ability to write precise feedback on AI output. US work authorization required; the role is remote and project-based.

Salary Insight

The listing sets pay at $62.50 per hour for part-time fellowship work. Since the program has no minimum hour requirement and runs project by project, your total earnings depend on how many assignments you take on and complete.
