Accounting Expert - Remote AI Data Project
Listing checked September 17, 2026 · pay as published by Mercor
Overview
Mercor and a leading AI lab need credentialed accountants to turn real practice into training material for AI systems. You can contribute from audit, tax, financial reporting, bookkeeping, controllership, forensic accounting, or accounting systems, depending on where your knowledge runs deepest. The work asks you to capture how professionals handle month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and standards calls under GAAP or IFRS. The remote, task-based engagement pays $80.00 per hour, and strong contributors can move into reviewer, lead, or domain-expert roles.
What You'll Do5
- 1Design realistic accounting tasks from your day-to-day work, covering items such as financial statement preparation, reconciliations, journal entries, audit procedures, tax filings, month-end close, and internal controls.
- 2Assess AI-generated accounting answers for accuracy, compliance with GAAP or IFRS, and sound professional judgment.
- 3Build structured examples that show how accountants reason through tricky problems and select the right treatment.
- 4Write clear feedback that helps the AI model improve its handling of accounting work.
- 5Coordinate with the research team through shared documents and remote updates.
Requirements5
- 1At least 3 years of professional accounting experience in audit, tax, bookkeeping, financial reporting, or finance operations. Public accounting, corporate, advisory, and firm settings all count.
- 2An active CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA, EA, or equivalent credential.
- 3A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 4Hands-on familiarity with tools such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Excel.
- 5Strong written communication and close attention to detail.
Who Should Apply
The best fit is a credentialed accountant with at least three years of hands-on work in audit, tax, financial reporting, bookkeeping, or finance operations. You should know GAAP or IFRS well enough to spot weak reasoning and explain what a correct answer looks like. The role suits people who enjoy writing and can describe their judgment in plain language. Candidates without a CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA, EA, or similar credential, or those with fewer than three years in the field, tend to score lower. A common rejection reason is listing broad finance duties without naming the accounting workflows, standards, or tools you use. Another is sending a resume that gives no evidence of written analysis.
Salary Insight
Mercor lists $80.00 per hour for this task-based remote role. That rate lands above many entry-level accounting contracts and fits credentialed accountants who can evaluate GAAP or IFRS judgments. Because work comes as tasks, total weekly earnings depend on task availability and how many hours you take on.

Application Tip
Lead with your credential and your strongest specialty, then add one concrete proof point for each area you list. For example, note the number of month-end closes you owned, the size or type of audits you supported, or the GAAP and IFRS issues you resolved. That detail helps reviewers match you to tasks and raises your fit score before the sample task stage.
