Accounting Expert | $70-$80/hr Remote
Overview
Mercor is looking for seasoned accounting professionals to help train AI systems that operate in financial reporting, audit, and technical accounting. In this remote, hourly role, you'll design scenarios, reference answers, and grading rubrics that capture how expert accountants and auditors actually reason. The work is split into a US track (US GAAP and PCAOB standards) and an International track (IFRS and ISA), and you can contribute to one or both.
What You'll Do5
- 1Build realistic accounting scenarios spanning financial statement preparation, technical accounting research, external and internal audit processes, and complex transactions like M&A, revenue recognition, and lease accounting.
- 2Create evaluation tasks across financial reporting, technical accounting, audit and assurance, and SOX/internal controls compliance.
- 3Develop casework that reflects real-world use of tools like SAP, Oracle, consolidation platforms, audit management systems, and research tools such as Bloomberg Tax and RIA Checkpoint.
- 4Produce reference deliverables — including financial statements, technical accounting memos, audit workpapers, and internal control assessments — aligned to the relevant standards track.
- 5Write grading rubrics that separate genuine professional judgment from textbook or CPA exam-style recall.
Requirements5
- 1At least 5+ years of experience as an accountant, controller, or audit partner — ideally at a Big Four firm or in a corporate controller/CFO role.
- 2Direct responsibility for financial reporting, audit engagements, or technical accounting matters.
- 3Working fluency with accounting tools and platforms, plus knowledge of SEC filings and audit standards.
- 4A recognized credential such as CPA, ACCA, or CA is strongly preferred.
- 5Prior experience writing rubrics or training materials is a plus.

Salary Insight
