Overview

Mercor is assembling a small team of UK-based consultants for a focused engagement with a globally leading AI lab. You will produce the same kind of professional deliverables you create in your daily consulting work, collaborating with peers from two other specialist domains. Those outputs feed directly into the tasks and scoring rubrics used to train and evaluate frontier AI models, so your real-world judgment becomes the foundation of the system. This is a short, intensive project running 14 September to 10 October 2026, requiring full-time commitment (40 hours per week) on a UK business-hours rhythm. Every candidate must be based in the United Kingdom and hold the right to work there; that condition is non-negotiable.

What You'll Do6

  • 1Create high-quality consulting deliverables—such as strategy decks, operating model designs, or analytical memos—mirroring the standard you'd deliver to a top-tier client.
  • 2Work alongside specialists from other domains to ensure outputs reflect a comprehensive, cross-functional perspective.
  • 3Document the reasoning, process, and structure behind each deliverable so it can be converted into training material for AI models.
  • 4Adapt your hands-on consulting work into clear, teachable examples that expose how experts approach complex problems.
  • 5Support the project team by reviewing and refining the tasks and evaluation criteria built from your work.
  • 6Depending on your assigned role, focus either on producing deliverables directly or on writing and organizing the accompanying documentation.

Requirements5

  • 1Based in the United Kingdom with legal authorization to work there.
  • 2Experience as a Partner, Engagement Manager, Associate, or Consultant at a top-tier strategy firm (e.g., MBB or equivalent).
  • 3Ideally, a background in target operating model design or organizational redesign projects.
  • 4Availability to commit 40 hours per week for the full project duration from September 14 to October 10, 2026.
  • 5No overlapping work commitments requiring significant hours; minor side projects can be discussed with the team.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate has honed their craft in a demanding strategy consultancy and now wants to translate that expertise into a new kind of challenge: teaching AI to think like a seasoned consultant. You find satisfaction in making your own judgment explicit and breaking down how you approach ambiguous business problems. This role is less suitable for someone who expects client-facing work or wants to build a relationship with the AI lab; the focus is on producing and documenting your work for model training. Candidates who fail early usually lack UK work rights, can't commit to the fixed full-time window, or come from outside the top-tier consulting ranks. Be prepared to show specific examples of your experience with operating model or organizational redesign, as that depth is a differentiator in the vetting process.

Salary Insight

The engagement pays $140–$200 per hour, a range that reflects the seniority and specialized expertise of consultants producing high-stakes materials for AI training. For this level of professional input, particularly within a fixed-term project, the rate sits at a competitive level compared to typical expert consulting work.

Application Tip

In your resume and any cover note, explicitly highlight projects involving target operating model or organizational redesign, since that experience is a stated priority. Also confirm your UK residence and right to work in the first line of your application, because failing that check will automatically disqualify you regardless of your expertise.
