What You'll Do7
- 1Review clinical case materials describing adolescent substance use and document thorough risk and severity assessments along with urgency of intervention
- 2Apply DSM-5 SUD and ASAM frameworks to stage severity and propose an appropriate level of care
- 3Assess safety and clinical suitability of proposed and alternative interventions, including relevant pharmacological options
- 4Differentiate normal adolescent experimentation from clinically significant substance use patterns in youth
- 5Identify withdrawal, overdose, and safeguarding risks that require escalation or immediate action
- 6Produce actionable guidance for non-specialists with clear rationale and reference to standards and guidelines
- 7Benchmark assessments against peer input and published best practices to maintain consistency and rigor
Requirements6
- 13–5+ years of direct experience with adolescents affected by substance use
- 2Clinical specialty in addiction medicine or child/adolescent psychiatry/psychology focused on SUD
- 3Active, in-good-standing clinical license with recent (<2 years) adolescent caseload
- 4Proficiency with screening and severity staging tools for adolescents (e.g., CRAFFT, S2BI, DSM-5, ASAM)
- 5Familiarity with MOUD/MAT and withdrawal protocols for under-18s
- 6Strong written English suitable for research-standard documentation
