Overview
micro1 seeks Senior AI Trainers to work on a customer-driven project that improves AI system quality through expert model training and evaluation. You will apply your generalist expertise and hands-on experience with AI products to help train next-generation systems. Your daily work involves evaluating AI chat and search tools, writing and refining prompts, and annotating model responses using detailed grading guidelines. This is a remote contractor role open to candidates in Northern America and Europe.
What You'll Do7
- 1Test AI chat and search tools under standardized, repeatable conditions to assess their performance.
- 2Apply detailed grading rubrics to rank and annotate model responses, delivering structured feedback that enhances model behavior.
- 3Write, refine, and stress-test prompts that probe model capabilities across diverse scenarios, edge cases, and user intents.
- 4Check consistency and accuracy across evaluations, resolving discrepancies between ratings and the underlying rubric.
- 5Use AI training tools and platforms to record findings and submit evaluation datasets that meet project standards and milestones.
- 6Work with other trainers and contributors to clarify ambiguities, improve guidelines, and maintain evaluation consistency.
- 7Take part in ongoing quality reviews, using feedback to uphold rigorous training and annotation standards.
Requirements8
- 1Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing and evaluating AI-generated content.
- 2Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration, reporting, and timely updates on progress and challenges.
- 3Demonstrated time management and self-organization abilities for independent, remote project work.
- 4Analytical and problem-solving mindset, with a proactive approach to resolving evaluation challenges.
- 5Proven experience with AI model training, RLHF, data labeling, or similar data-centric evaluation projects.
- 6Familiarity with AI products and tools, including prompt engineering and understanding of model behaviors and limitations.
- 7Experience writing evaluation rubrics, grading model outputs, or reviewing AI responses for accuracy, helpfulness, and safety.
- 8Background in AI training, machine learning data preparation, or LLM-focused projects is strongly preferred.
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has a track record in AI model training, RLHF, data labeling, or similar evaluation work, and can point to experience with prompt engineering and grading model outputs. You should be comfortable working independently, managing your own schedule, and communicating clearly in a remote setting. This role is less suitable for someone who needs constant supervision or prefers a fixed, in-office schedule. Candidates often get rejected when they lack concrete examples of AI evaluation projects or cannot show familiarity with model behaviors and limitations. Another common reason for low fit scores is weak attention to detail, such as inconsistent ratings or missed discrepancies in evaluation tasks.
