Overview

This contract role is fully remote and pays between $85 and $185 per hour, with a flexible commitment that can fit alongside your current position. You will design tough technical problems drawn from your own semiconductor specialty, such as device physics, process integration, or circuit design, and then supply the correct analysis along with clear criteria for what makes an answer right. The work focuses on cases where a textbook solution falls short and a plausible-looking answer is actually wrong. You will also review problems built by other contributors and flag any that are ambiguous or cannot be graded.

What You'll Do5

  • Create difficult technical problems from your own area, including device physics, process integration, circuit design, lithography, packaging, yield, and reliability, with realistic constraints and supporting data.
  • Provide the correct solution and explain the reasoning that leads to it.
  • Define objective criteria for correctness so that another expert reviewing the work would reach the same conclusion.
  • Review problems built by other contributors for technical accuracy and soundness of method.
  • Flag problems that turn out to be ambiguous or ungradable instead of submitting them.

Requirements4

  • Master's or PhD in electrical engineering, materials science, applied physics, or a closely related field.
  • Principal, staff, or fellow-level experience at a major semiconductor company, or a faculty appointment at a leading university.
  • Deep technical depth in at least one semiconductor subdomain, with hands-on ownership of the work.
  • Able to explain why an answer is correct clearly enough that another engineer could verify it.

Preferred Qualifications2

  • Publications, patents, or a record of technical leadership.
  • AI or LLM evaluation experience.

Who Should Apply

This role suits a semiconductor expert with a Master's or PhD and principal-level industry experience or a faculty appointment. You should have deep hands-on knowledge in one subdomain and be able to justify your reasoning so other engineers can verify it.
