What You'll Do5

  • 1Tackle complex physics problems from your area of expertise, producing rigorous, well-documented derivations and analyses.
  • 2Write clear, technically precise solutions that detail all assumptions, approximations, and final results using LaTeX mathematical notation.
  • 3Leverage SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for symbolic or numerical verification, and present clean computational workflows where relevant.
  • 4Identify and articulate subtle details in problem statements — including special cases, boundary conditions, and dimensional consistency — and propose well-reasoned interpretations for any ambiguities.
  • 5Iterate on submitted solutions based on feedback from project reviewers, integrating corrections cleanly and maintaining high standards of documentation and reproducibility.

Requirements7

  • 1PhD in physics or advanced-stage PhD candidacy with active research experience in a relevant subfield.
  • 2Research expertise in one or more areas such as High Energy Physics, Condensed Matter, AMO/Quantum Optics, Astrophysics, or Quantum Information.
  • 3A track record of 2–5 recent (past ~5 years) representative publications with accessible arXiv or DOI records.
  • 4Proficiency with LaTeX for mathematical exposition, and hands-on experience with SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for computational work; willingness to indicate areas where additional support is needed.
  • 5Excellent written technical communication skills, demonstrated by clear, precise, and well-argued scientific outputs.
  • 6Strong analytical ability to isolate key physical principles and provide nuanced solutions to complex problems.
  • 7Availability to commit approximately 10 hours per week over an 8–10 week engagement.
