Overview
micro1 is seeking seasoned physicists—think Professors or Principal Investigators—to lend their deep domain expertise to a project that helps train next-generation AI systems. In this fully remote contract role, you'll apply your own research experience to guide how models handle complex, contested physics problems. No background in AI is required; your physics mastery is what matters.
What You'll Do7
- 1Provide expert judgment on competing physics arguments or solutions within your subfield, deciding which interpretation holds under given conditions.
- 2Compare different approaches to the same problem, explaining which is superior and under what assumptions or regimes.
- 3Identify and articulate meta-level criteria for evaluating the robustness and validity of physics work, including key assumptions and where approximations break down.
- 4Deliver calibrated confidence—offer authoritative assessments while transparently acknowledging genuine uncertainty or open questions.
- 5Draft rigorous written evaluations suitable for review by fellow senior physicists, ensuring clarity and defensibility.
- 6Use technical tools such as LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter to verify or contrast technical claims as needed.
- 7Clearly communicate when a question remains unresolved in the field and outline the pertinent considerations.
Requirements7
- 1A PhD in physics with a strong record of scholarly impact in your specified subfield.
- 2Current or former role as an Associate Professor, Full Professor, Chair Professor, or Principal Investigator/Group Leader with independent research leadership.
- 3Active research in one or more of: High Energy Physics, Mathematical Physics, Biophysics, Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter, AMO/Quantum Optics, Gravitation, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Quantum Information, or Optical Properties of Materials.
- 43–5 recent representative publications in your target subfield, with arXiv or DOI references.
- 5Experience supervising PhD students or postdocs (or equivalent leadership in industry research).
- 6Proficiency with LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter (note any gaps).
- 7Exceptional written communication skills, able to articulate nuanced, well-reasoned judgments.
