Overview
Etsy's Brooklyn headquarters depends on its Workplace Experience team to keep several floors of office running, and this job owns the mailroom side of that work. You take packages from receipt through sorting, logging, and delivery, then prepare outgoing shipments with the right postage and carrier. Mail tracking systems, courier vendor management, and daily Google Suite work all sit inside the role. Employees come to you with questions about postage rates, shipping timelines, and loading dock access, and you pitch in on conference or event setup when the wider operations group needs help. Physical presence matters here, so the schedule runs on-site five days a week.
What You'll Do10
- Run the mailroom from start to finish: receive, sort, log, and hand off incoming mail and packages to the right people
- Weigh and prepare outgoing mail, apply correct postage, and choose the carrier that fits the shipment
- Keep mail logs current with date received, sender, and recipient so records hold up for retrieval and audit, and pull activity or inventory reports when asked
- Negotiate with courier and postal vendors, compare shipping options, and hold delivery partners to reliable turnaround times
- Screen incoming mail for security risks and work with other departments to settle escalated mailroom problems
- Stock supplies, keep equipment working, and maintain a mailroom free of backlog and clutter
- Answer employee questions on postage, rates, dock access, and shipping schedules
- Audit postal paperwork and handle payroll and accounts payable mail printing and distribution
- Coach other team members so coverage holds when you are out
- Support Workplace Operations with conference room or event setup and special projects as they come up
Requirements5
- Hands-on mailroom, shipping, or logistics experience inside a commercial office or corporate setting
- Strong organization and comfort managing physical inventory, packages, and deliveries that cannot slip
- Clear written and verbal communication for employee requests and vendor coordination
- Working knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail) and Slack
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications3
- Experience with mail tracking or scanning systems
- Familiarity with USPS, FedEx, UPS, and courier account management
- Prior experience at an e-commerce company
Who Should Apply
Candidates with mailroom, shipping, or logistics experience in a corporate office who can own a mailroom end to end. You handle physical inventory and time-sensitive deliveries without letting details slide, and you communicate clearly with employees and carriers. E-commerce backgrounds help.
Salary Insight
This freelance engagement pays $35.00 to $41.00 per hour. That range lines up with experienced office services and mailroom leads in New York City who carry vendor and reporting duties, not entry-level mail clerking.
