Overview

Etsy needs a communications specialist for a six-month freelance stint covering a teammate's leave on the US Consumer Communications team. You will keep daily press work moving: pitching reporters, chasing coverage, and turning seller stories and shopping trends into stories that land. The Global Consumer Communications group shapes how the brand appears in culture and press worldwide, working with internal partners and outside PR agencies. Expect a mix of media outreach, event logistics, and campaign support, with press materials and trackers as everyday tools.

What You'll Do8

  • Draft and send pitches to journalists, then follow up and field incoming press requests.
  • Partner with the US PR agency on media opportunities, tracking deadlines, coverage updates, and day-to-day deliverables.
  • Run logistics for press opportunities, from product shipments to interview schedules, briefing materials, and follow-up.
  • Watch culture, shopping, and media for emerging trends, then flag the ones where Etsy has a credible and timely story.
  • Write and refresh press materials, talking points, briefing documents, and campaign trackers.
  • Support press events and campaign launches, covering media lists, invitations, materials, and on-site needs.
  • Shepherd contract requests and reviews for comms projects, coordinating approvals and deadlines with the Legal team and internal partners.
  • Research and reach out to Etsy sellers for campaigns, media requests, and seasonal pitching opportunities.

Requirements6

  • 3+ years of experience in consumer PR or communications.
  • Fluency in the consumer and lifestyle media world, including newer outlets and creators.
  • Strong writing skills, with an emphasis on media pitches and press materials.
  • Solid organization and attention to detail while juggling several projects.
  • Comfort working with internal teams and outside partners.
  • Resourcefulness and the ability to shift when plans or priorities change.

Preferred Qualifications4

  • Existing relationships with US reporters or editors in lifestyle, shopping, culture, fashion, home, or retail.
  • Background at a PR agency or on an integrated marketing campaign.
  • Experience with an ecommerce platform, marketplace, or retail brand.
  • A knack for finding stories inside consumer or marketplace data.

Who Should Apply

A consumer PR professional with three or more years of press experience who writes a sharp pitch and keeps several campaigns moving at once. You know the lifestyle and shopping media beat, and you stay flexible when plans shift. Agency, marketplace, or retail background helps you start fast.

Salary Insight

The role pays $50.00 to $52.68 per hour on a freelance basis. That range lines up with mid-level consumer PR contract work in the New York market and reflects the three-plus years of press experience the team wants.
