Nephrologist
Listing checked October 24, 2026 · pay as published by Mercor
Overview
Mercor pairs board-certified nephrologists with a leading AI lab to grade how well health models answer clinical questions. You work from de-identified patient charts, reading each case and judging AI-generated responses against current standards of care. The work runs remote on an hourly basis, and hours stay flexible enough to fit around an active practice. Your reviews carry real weight: the errors you catch shape models that clinicians and patients may later depend on.
What You'll Do6
- 1Score AI answers to nephrology questions for clinical accuracy, safety, and fit with current standards of care
- 2Cross-check every answer against the de-identified chart and pick the stronger of two competing responses
- 3Write structured rationales covering clinical rigor, completeness, and clarity
- 4Flag mistakes that could put patient safety at risk
- 5Apply nephrology judgment to cases where the correct call depends on lab trends, dialysis status, or medication history
- 6Document your reasoning in a form other reviewers and model trainers can follow
Requirements8
- 1MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- 2Board certification in ABIM Nephrology through an ABMS member board or the AOA
- 3Active, unrestricted US medical license
- 4Completed residency, plus fellowship where the specialty requires one
- 5Currently seeing patients in the US, with at least one year of independent practice after training
- 6Three or more years of post-training experience (strongly preferred)
- 7Clear written communication and close attention to detail
- 8Conversational interview and credential verification covering license status, board certification, training, and practice setting
Who Should Apply
Practicing US nephrologists who hold ABIM board certification and an unrestricted license, and who want part-time remote work that leans on clinical judgment rather than patient throughput. Strong writers with three or more years past training will stand out.
Salary Insight
The role pays $200 per hour. That rate sits well above typical clinical part-time work and reflects the board certification and active licensure the project requires, so expect the credential check to confirm both before onboarding.

Application Tip
State your ABIM Nephrology certification, license status, and practice setting up front, then quantify your post-training experience (for example, four years of independent outpatient nephrology). Name the chart review and clinical documentation work you already do, since the screen tests how you justify a judgment call in writing.

Mercor
VerifiedMedical Expert (M.D./D.O.) - Remote Part-Time
Mercor keeps this listing open for physicians who want to shape how frontier AI models handle clinical reasoning. The work fits around your practice: you might write a clinical vignette from a real case, complete with presentation, labs, and imaging, then supply the attending-level answer used as a reference. Other projects ask you to grade model output on diagnostic reasoning, checking whether a differential follows a sensible order, whether the model anchors on a first impression, and whether the proposed workup matches guidelines. You also flag recommendations that read well in a textbook but fail the patient in front of you because of comorbidities, contraindications, or access limits. Projects start on short notice, so Mercor draws from this pool when client demand matches your specialty.
