Overview
This role sits at the intersection of legal expertise and AI research. You'll design evaluation frameworks that measure how well large language models handle complex legal reasoning, working remotely to help build the next generation of enterprise AI for the legal industry. Your work will directly shape how AI agents perform tasks like statutory interpretation, contract analysis, and workflow automation.
What You'll Do6
- 1Own the design and evolution of evaluation frameworks for AI agents in legal domains, including benchmark suites, scoring methodologies, and quality rubrics.
- 2Conduct original research on legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, and workflow automation to push the boundaries of what AI can achieve in law.
- 3Curate datasets, case studies, and benchmark environments that mirror real-world legal challenges, from corporate contracts to regulatory compliance.
- 4Collaborate closely with AI researchers and engineers to evaluate model performance, identify failure modes, and drive improvements in legal-focused systems.
- 5Analyze the quality of legal arguments and outcomes produced by AI, publishing internal findings and best practices to advance the field.
- 6Stay current with developments in legal technology, jurisprudence, and AI research to help establish industry-leading standards for legal AI evaluation.
Requirements4
- 1An advanced degree in law — JD, LLM, SJD, or PhD in Law — or equivalent professional experience.
- 2Deep expertise in at least one legal domain such as corporate law, contracts, litigation, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, employment law, or public policy.
- 3Proven experience conducting legal research, analysis, or policy work, with the ability to develop structured methodologies for assessing legal arguments or outcomes.
- 4Exceptional analytical reasoning and written communication skills, plus comfort working across interdisciplinary teams that blend research, technology, and legal operations.

Salary Insight
The base salary for this full-time remote role is $200,000–$250,000, plus eligibility for equity compensation and performance-based bonuses. micro1 also offers up to 100% reimbursement for health insurance premiums, paid time off, and a 401(k) with company match.
