Overview

AfterQuery builds training material for AI systems, and this contract puts manufacturing professionals in charge of the questions themselves. You turn plant-floor knowledge into case studies and prompts that test how well a model handles production planning, quality control, lean manufacturing, supply chain problems, equipment maintenance and safety protocols. The role runs remote and asynchronous across a 40 hour week, so you choose when to write and when to review. The company is YC-backed, which means the items you draft feed straight into live model evaluation.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Write manufacturing questions and case studies that push AI models on production planning, quality control and process topics
  • 2Build items spanning lean manufacturing, supply chain management, equipment maintenance and safety protocols
  • 3Review model answers and record where the reasoning fails or misses accepted plant practice
  • 4Deliver written feedback that names the correct manufacturing principle, standard or calculation
  • 5Check each question against industry practice before it reaches the training set
  • 6Collaborate with other manufacturing and technical experts to set and adjust difficulty levels
  • 7Rewrite prompts so items stay demanding while still teaching something concrete
  • 8Flag topics where model performance stays weak and propose new material to close those gaps

Requirements5

  • 1Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, operations management or a related field, or comparable professional experience
  • 2Proven background in manufacturing operations, production management or industrial engineering
  • 3Working knowledge of multiple manufacturing processes and systems
  • 4Strong analytical skills paired with clear writing and verbal communication
  • 5Close attention to detail when reviewing technical content for accuracy

Who Should Apply

The strongest fit is someone who has spent years on the production side, knows several process types, and can explain why one approach beats another in a specific plant setting. Writing ability matters as much as technical depth, because every question and every critique goes out in text. Candidates with process improvement work, Lean Six Sigma certification, a PE license or exposure to Industry 4.0 and IIoT tools stand out. People who only know one narrow production line, or who have never documented their reasoning in writing, tend to score lower on fit. Applications also get filtered when candidates list job titles without naming the processes, equipment or systems they actually worked with.

Salary Insight

The listing posts $40.00 to $100.00 per hour for contract work, with a 40 hour weekly commitment. That band is wide because it maps to experience: the lower end suits someone with a few years in operations, while the upper end usually matches professionals with a decade or more across multiple production environments, plus certifications such as Lean Six Sigma or a PE license.

Application Tip

Name the exact processes, systems and standards you have worked with, then attach numbers to the outcomes, such as cycle time cut by a set percentage or defect rates reduced on a specific line. Add any Lean Six Sigma, PE or Industry 4.0 credentials near the top of your resume, since those map directly to the preferred qualifications and raise your fit score before a reviewer reads further.
