Overview
AfterQuery assembles the evaluation and training data that frontier AI labs rely on to measure how models reason inside real professional work. HVAC techs on this contract write the diagnostic scenarios and reference answers those evaluations run on, from refrigeration cycle faults through load calculation and duct sizing calls. The work happens at home and on your own clock, typed rather than brazed. Ten hours a week is the floor, with room to scale up when the shop slows down.
What You'll Do6
- Build service-call scenarios that open with a symptom and carry through diagnosis, repair, and the reasoning behind each decision.
- Draft reference answers that explain system behavior and code requirements at every step, including why a given charge, duct size, or sequence of operations applies.
- Review model responses for technical accuracy, efficiency, and safety before they enter the evaluation set.
- Flag answers that read well but would wreck a compressor or send carbon monoxide into a living space.
- Keep scenarios inside your specialty, whether that means residential service, commercial refrigeration, or controls.
- Track your own output week to week and adjust hours around your regular jobs.
Requirements8
- EPA Section 608 certification, plus a state HVAC license wherever your state mandates one.
- Two or more years of hands-on field work in installation, service, or controls.
- Solid command of refrigeration cycles, airflow behavior, and load calculation.
- Clear written English for documenting diagnostic reasoning step by step.
- At least 10 hours of availability each week.
- Preferred: NATE certification or an HVAC contractor license.
- Preferred: depth in commercial refrigeration or building automation.
- Preferred: heat pump, geothermal, or high efficiency system background.
