Overview
AfterQuery, an early stage Y Combinator backed company, hires construction professionals for short project based assignments that run over the next two to three weeks. Your work centers on construction drawings, specifications and technical documents: read them, judge whether they hold up, then write the reasoning down so another reviewer can follow it. Tasks stretch across planning, document review and field problem solving for commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure projects. Assignments arrive one at a time, run on your own schedule, and call for 10 to 20 hours a week on the ones you accept.
What You'll Do6
- Take on part time project work of 10 to 20 hours each week for the assignments you choose to accept
- Study construction drawings, specifications and technical documents, then assess what they call for and where they fall short
- Record your reasoning and technical judgments in writing so a second reviewer can reproduce your conclusion
- Answer technical questions about live projects on your own, without waiting on someone else to sign off
- Handle tasks that range from construction planning and field problem solving to technical evaluation
- Move between project types and disciplines as new assignments come in
Requirements9
- 1 to 3 years of professional experience as a construction engineer, project engineer, field engineer or similar role, held full time or the equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related field, or practical experience covering the same ground
- Solid command of construction documents, drawings and specifications
- Working grasp of sequencing, scheduling, materials and building codes
- Evidence that you can resolve technical questions on active projects without supervision
- Exposure to several project types, such as commercial, residential, industrial or infrastructure
- Familiarity with standards and codes such as IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE or OSHA
- Hands on use of construction management tools such as Procore, Bluebeam or Primavera P6
- Experience in both office and field settings, or coordination across trades and disciplines
