Overview
SME Careers, part of SuperAnnotate, hires Gujarati specialists to improve how leading AI models read and write Gujarati. The work centers on ARC science benchmark questions: you compare an existing English-to-Gujarati translation with an AI-proposed correction, judge both against the English source, and protect meaning, difficulty, answer structure, and scientific terms. You also write clear review comments and choose the next step, whether that means accepting the original, accepting the AI fix, editing the translation, or escalating the item. The engagement is freelance and hourly, with remote work across time zones, and interviews take place in English.
What You'll Do10
- Compare each existing Gujarati translation of an ARC science question with the English source and with an AI-proposed correction.
- Review only the question and answer choices, and judge accuracy and faithfulness ahead of stylistic polish.
- Confirm that the translation keeps the source meaning, difficulty, answer structure, scientific terminology, and protected elements intact.
- Choose one outcome for every item: accept the original, accept the AI correction, edit the final translation, or escalate.
- Write a short review comment that explains the choice and names any remaining problem.
- Spot meaning shifts, mistranslations, register errors, ambiguity, and logic gaps that change the benchmark item.
- Fact-check claims when needed, and reject hallucinated claims or phrasing that feels awkward for the target culture.
- Apply the core review guidelines and Gujarati-specific language rules to each item.
- Produce polished Gujarati rewrites or model answers when the workflow calls for reference content.
- Rate and compare several AI responses for correctness and overall quality, and assess the reasoning they show when a task calls for it.
Requirements8
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Linguistics, Gujarati or English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Native or near-native Gujarati reading and writing ability.
- English at C1 level or above for guideline review and written feedback.
- 3+ years of professional work in writing, editing, localization, translation, content QA, journalism, education, or another language-focused field.
- Deep knowledge of Gujarati grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style, plus the ability to explain why an error occurs and how to fix it.
- Comfort with formal and informal registers, dialect variation, and audience adaptation for India and diaspora readers.
- Attention to detail for subtle meaning shifts, hallucinated claims, and culture-specific awkward phrasing.
- Reliable, self-directed work habits and consistent quality in an hourly remote contractor schedule across time zones.
Preferred Qualifications3
- Prior experience with AI data training or annotation.
- Prior translation QA or editorial QA work.
- Prior rubric-based evaluation work.
Who Should Apply
Gujarati language professionals with at least three years of editing, translation, localization, or content QA experience fit this role. You need native or near-native Gujarati, C1 English, and a careful eye for accuracy in science benchmark translations. Candidates who have reviewed AI output or applied rubrics will stand out.
