Overview
Mercor pairs you with a leading research lab on a project that tests how well a large language model handles German. Your day revolves around judging model output for translation, summarization, dialogue and grammar correction, then flagging where the German reads wrong or sounds unnatural. You also write and clean up training text so the model picks up correct grammar, syntax and regional usage. The engagement is part-time and fully remote, paid at $50.00/hr, with your annotations feeding straight back into model training.
What You'll Do7
- Score German text produced by the model across tasks such as translation, summarization, dialogue and grammar correction.
- Rewrite or polish German passages so they meet native-level grammar, style and cultural expectations.
- Tag German data with grammatical, syntactic and semantic labels that researchers can train on.
- Document recurring model mistakes and language gaps, then share findings with the AI research team.
- Write detailed linguistic notes that explain why a given output fails or passes review.
- Build and curate German datasets used to sharpen model understanding and generation.
- Adjust judgments for regional variants of German so the model handles context correctly.
Requirements7
- Native or near-native German, backed by firm control of grammar, syntax and style.
- Hands-on background in translation, editing, linguistic annotation or German NLP data work.
- Ability to hear the difference between valid variants and genuinely awkward phrasing.
- Comfort reading linguistic nuance and regional usage in German text.
- Sharp eye for subtle errors, typos and phrasing that no native speaker would produce.
- Clear written communication suited to remote, distributed teamwork.
- Interest in AI and language model technology helps, though it is not mandatory.
Who Should Apply
German linguists with real translation, editing or annotation work behind them who can explain exactly why a sentence fails. If you notice unnatural phrasing fast and want that judgment to shape an LLM, this project fits.
Salary Insight
The role pays $50.00/hr, which sits at the higher end for part-time German language annotation and review work. Expect the contract to reward candidates who bring professional translation or NLP data experience rather than casual fluency alone.
