Game Developer
Listing checked October 8, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 is hiring Game Developers to support a customer project that evaluates and improves AI systems in game creation and interaction. You will build small game projects and interactive scenes in a major engine, then embed realistic bugs and feature challenges that AI agents must analyze, play, and solve. Your domain knowledge is the core requirement, and no prior AI experience is needed. Developers from AAA studios, indie teams, solo projects, and serious hobby backgrounds are all welcome.
What You'll Do7
- 1Build compact game projects or interactive scenes in a major engine to serve as the base for assessment tasks.
- 2Place realistic gameplay bugs that demand playtesting and on-screen analysis to find and fix.
- 3Create multi-layered gameplay feature challenges that depend on several in-game systems and mechanics.
- 4Write clear, concise briefs for each task in the voice of a player, designer, or producer.
- 5Produce full reference solutions for every assignment, covering both bug fixes and feature implementations.
- 6Define detailed success criteria, including input sequences, expected visual outcomes, and verifiable in-game states.
- 7Run end-to-end playtesting on each task to confirm it is reliable and solvable.
Requirements7
- 1Hands-on game development experience from AAA, indie, solo, or serious hobby work.
- 2A portfolio of verifiable projects or published work such as a personal site, itch.io, Steam, GitHub, game jam entries, or shipped titles.
- 3Advanced proficiency with at least one major engine (Unity, Godot, or Unreal), including editor tools, scene management, and debugging utilities.
- 4Comfort with engine scripting languages such as C#, GDScript, C++, or Blueprints, and the ability to read, troubleshoot, and improve gameplay logic.
- 5A track record of finding and resolving gameplay issues through iterative playtesting.
- 6Strong written communication for drafting precise task instructions and acceptance criteria.
- 7Bonus: experience in game QA, technical design, systems design, automated testing, or prior work on AI evaluation projects.
Who Should Apply
This role suits developers who have shipped or published game work and can point to a portfolio on itch.io, Steam, GitHub, or a personal site. You should be fluent in at least one major engine and its scripting language, and you should enjoy the puzzle of reproducing bugs and writing clear task briefs. Candidates who only have tutorial-level engine experience or no verifiable projects tend to score low on fit. Another common rejection reason is weak written communication, since every task needs precise instructions and acceptance criteria that another person can follow.

Application Tip
Lead with a portfolio link that shows a playable build or shipped title, and name the exact engine and scripting language you used (for example, Unity with C# or Godot with GDScript). In your application, describe one bug you found through playtesting and how you fixed it, because that mirrors the core task of this role.

Micro1
VerifiedSenior Software Engineer
micro1 is hiring Senior Software Engineers to build Reinforcement Learning Environments that test how well AI models handle real coding problems. You will design tasks around bug fixing, feature implementation, refactoring, and performance tuning, then create a reproducible setup and a golden reference solution for each. This is a remote contractor role at roughly 15 hours per week, and no prior AI experience is needed. Your software engineering depth is what matters here.

Handshake AI
VerifiedGame Developer - Remote Part-Time Fellowship
Handshake AI seeks game design and development professionals for an AI research fellowship. Fellows use tools such as Godot, LibreSprite, O3DE, and PyCharm to shape how models handle real game industry tasks. The work includes writing domain-specific prompts and judging LLM responses for accuracy. This remote, part-time role runs on an asynchronous schedule, so you set your own hours with no minimum commitment. Placement depends on project availability, and the program opens projects throughout the year.

Micro1
VerifiedSoftware Engineer – AI Training
This remote contractor role at micro1 puts your backend coding skills to work training next-generation AI. You will design realistic coding challenges that involve feature implementation and bug fixes, then build deterministic verifiers that accept valid solutions and reject everything else. Expect about 15 hours a week, with a flexible schedule you control, including weekends if you want. No prior AI experience is needed. Your domain knowledge in languages like Java, Rust, Python, or TypeScript is what matters.

Micro1
VerifiedProfessional Gamer for AI Training and Data Annotation
A remote contractor role for experienced PC gamers to support an AI training project. You’ll play curated titles, record per-frame gameplay video, and capture keyboard and mouse telemetry to help improve how models learn from real gameplay. Your domain knowledge matters more than prior AI experience, and you’ll contribute data and insights shaping model reasoning and performance. You’ll also annotate gameplay events, perform issue spotting, and keep managers updated on progress.

Turing
VerifiedBoard Game Reasoning Expert (AI Training & Evaluation)
Turing seeks Board Game Reasoning Experts to build and assess tasks that sharpen the reasoning of frontier AI models. The work centers on board games, game mechanics, and complex rule systems, requiring analysis of strategic decision trees and scenario-based puzzles. Experts create, review, and score game-based datasets, checking AI outputs for logical consistency and rule adherence. The role is a fully remote contractor assignment lasting about 2 months, with a commitment of at least 4 hours per day and 20 hours per week, including 4 hours of overlap with PST.

Micro1
VerifiedSoftware Engineer (Open Source Contributor)
This contract role at micro1 puts your coding skills to work building training material for next-generation AI. You will design reproducible Reinforcement Learning Environments that test whether a model can fix bugs, add features, refactor code, and improve performance. Each problem needs a golden reference solution plus a deterministic verifier that accepts valid answers and rejects the rest. You can work from anywhere, and no prior AI experience is required. Tasks run about 15 hours per run, and onboarding starts as soon as you are selected.
