Overview

We're building a cross-platform time intelligence app for MacOS and Windows that runs quietly in the background for thousands of professionals. As our Electron.js Software Engineer, you'll shape the architecture of this desktop agent, focusing on performance and a small memory footprint. You'll work with TypeScript, Node.js, and Electron.js to create real-time tracking and offline-first data pipelines. This is a full-time remote role where your work directly impacts how people manage their time.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Design and evolve a cross-platform desktop agent using Electron.js, keeping it fast and light on system resources.
  • 2Build real-time timekeeping features with precise event tracking and smooth background execution.
  • 3Implement system-level signal collection for keyboard, mouse, and app usage, ensuring strong privacy and efficiency.
  • 4Develop offline-first data pipelines that sync reliably in the background and handle conflicts gracefully.
  • 5Connect the desktop app to distributed backend services and internal APIs for analytics and reporting.
  • 6Continuously improve runtime performance, memory usage, and fault tolerance.
  • 7Work with product, design, and backend teams to ship features that boost user productivity.

Requirements7

  • 13+ years building production-grade desktop applications with Electron.js.
  • 2Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
  • 3Experience designing cross-platform systems for MacOS and Windows with consistent behavior.
  • 4Hands-on experience with real-time tracking, event streams, or activity monitoring systems.
  • 5Familiarity with OS-level APIs for capturing user and system interactions.
  • 6Deep understanding of performance optimization in desktop environments.
  • 7Strong debugging skills and the ability to reason about edge cases in distributed or offline systems.

Who Should Apply

This role suits an engineer who enjoys the nitty-gritty of desktop systems and has shipped Electron apps to real users. You should be comfortable with TypeScript and Node.js and have worked on cross-platform code that behaves the same on Mac and Windows. If you've built activity monitoring or telemetry tools, that's a plus. The role is less ideal for someone who prefers pure frontend or backend work without touching OS-level details. Candidates often get rejected when they lack deep Electron experience or can't show how they optimized performance in a desktop app. Also, if you haven't handled offline sync or event streams, you might struggle with the core challenges here.
