Econometrics Expert
Listing checked October 7, 2026 · pay as published by AfterQuery
Overview
AfterQuery brings on applied economists to build empirical problems that frontier AI labs use to gauge model judgment. Prompts come straight from your own research background: causal inference questions, panel data, discrete choice models and forecasting tasks, and you carry each one through to a reference answer with the reasoning laid out step by step. Hours stay flexible with a floor of 10 per week and no ceiling, so you decide how much you take on each week. Pay arrives weekly through Stripe, and the arrangement runs as independent contractor work with ongoing projects.
What You'll Do8
- 1Write empirical economics problems that mirror the questions you handle in your own research or analytics work.
- 2Turn each prompt into a complete reference solution, showing the logic behind every stage of the analysis.
- 3Cover territory such as causal identification, panel data structures, discrete choice models and time series forecasting.
- 4Flag identification and modeling mistakes that survive a surface check but break under an econometrician's eye.
- 5Explain your reasoning in clear written English so a reviewer can trace how an answer was reached.
- 6Ground each problem in realistic data structures and estimation routines instead of textbook abstractions.
- 7Scale output up or down each week while holding to the 10 hour minimum.
- 8Apply your own empirical judgment when deciding what counts as a sound answer.
Requirements8
- 1Master's or PhD in economics or another quantitative social science.
- 2At least 3 years in a full time empirical research or analytics post. Internships and coursework do not count toward this bar.
- 3Direct experience with causal inference or econometric modeling.
- 4Working command of Stata, R or Python.
- 5Strong written English and the ability to walk a reader through an analysis.
- 6Availability of 10 hours per week at minimum.
- 7Preferred: hands-on work with difference in differences, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity or synthetic control designs.
- 8Preferred: time series forecasting projects.
Who Should Apply
The strongest fit is an applied economist or econometrician with a graduate degree and several years of hands-on empirical work, someone who reaches for difference in differences, instrumental variables or forecasting methods without checking a reference. You should enjoy writing out why an estimate holds up, not just producing the number. The role suits people who want to stay inside their specialty and control their own schedule week to week. Applicants who bring only coursework or internship experience miss the 3 year full time bar, and those who cannot explain an identification strategy in plain written English score low on fit. A fixed 40 hour structure or a team-based project format will frustrate you here.
Salary Insight
Pay runs $115.00 per hour, sent weekly through Stripe under an independent contractor arrangement. For an econometrician with a graduate degree and a few years of empirical work, that figure lands above what most academic research assistant and postdoc roles pay per hour and tracks with senior analytics consulting rates. Since you set your own hours, weekly earnings depend on how much you take on above the 10 hour floor.

Application Tip
Name the estimator, the identification strategy, the dataset and the result when you describe past work. A line like 'difference in differences on 12 years of state panel data, clustered standard errors, 4 percent wage effect' reads as a practitioner, while 'causal inference experience' does not. Confirm upfront that you can commit at least 10 hours per week and note how many projects you want to carry.

AfterQuery
VerifiedEconomics Expert - Remote Contract Position
AfterQuery needs an economics expert to handle project-based work for its Finance team. You will build econometric models from real datasets, apply causal inference, and document each analytical choice. Projects run on an asynchronous schedule across two to three weeks, with ten to twenty hours per week for accepted assignments. The company is an early-stage Y Combinator-backed startup, and pay ranges from $60 to $100 per hour.

AfterQuery
VerifiedQuantitative Research Expert
AfterQuery supplies expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs use to test and improve models. In this quantitative finance contract, you turn your own professional work into problems covering signal research, backtesting, derivatives pricing, risk models, and time series. Each problem needs a reference answer plus the reasoning that supports every step. The work stays within your specialty, runs on your schedule, and pays weekly through Stripe. Practicing quants with modeling depth get the most from this setup.

Micro1
VerifiedEconomics Expert (PhD)
Your PhD in economics can shape how AI systems interpret and reason about economic principles. micro1 is bringing in PhD-level economists to generate detailed, high-quality answers for an AI training initiative. You do not need any machine learning background. The role is fully remote and pays per completed task. Your core output includes golden responses that serve as quality benchmarks for model developers.

AfterQuery
VerifiedHealth Economics Expert (Remote Contract)
AfterQuery supplies the expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs rely on to benchmark their models. As a contract health economics specialist, you write and score the economic evaluations those benchmarks run on, spanning cost-effectiveness modelling, budget impact work, and HTA submissions. Hours are yours to set, with a floor of ten each week and no client deadlines or billable targets to hit. The material you produce shapes how models learn to reason about cost, evidence and health outcomes.

AfterQuery
VerifiedData Scientist Expert
AfterQuery assembles the expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs rely on to test and sharpen their models. This contract role puts practicing data scientists to work authoring the analysis problems those evaluations run on, pulled straight from your own daily work in experiments, metrics, forecasting and predictive modeling. You write each problem, solve it end to end with a reference answer, and flag the mistakes that pass a quick look but fail under a practitioner's eye. Work is fully remote and async: no fixed hours, and you decide how much or how little you take on each week.

Mercor
VerifiedEconomics Research Expert - AI Lab Project
Mercor seeks Economics Research Experts to support a research project tied to a leading foundational model AI lab. The work runs remote and pays per hour, with a minimum four-week engagement. You bring a master's or PhD in economics plus at least one year at an institution such as the World Bank, IMF, Federal Reserve, or a graduate school economics department. The schedule asks for no less than 10 hours each week, and strong contributions can put you in line for later Mercor projects.
