Quantitative Research Expert
Listing checked October 8, 2026 · pay as published by AfterQuery
Overview
AfterQuery supplies expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs use to test and improve models. In this quantitative finance contract, you turn your own professional work into problems covering signal research, backtesting, derivatives pricing, risk models, and time series. Each problem needs a reference answer plus the reasoning that supports every step. The work stays within your specialty, runs on your schedule, and pays weekly through Stripe. Practicing quants with modeling depth get the most from this setup.
What You'll Do4
- 1Create realistic quantitative finance problems that reflect your actual work in signal research, backtesting, derivatives pricing, or risk modeling.
- 2Work each problem to a trustworthy reference solution, showing the reasoning for every step.
- 3Flag modeling errors that seem plausible on the surface but only an experienced practitioner would catch.
- 4Review your own problems for ambiguity and edge cases that could mislead a solver.
Requirements8
- 1Master's or PhD in mathematics, statistics, physics, financial engineering, economics, or computer science.
- 2At least 3 years of full-time work as a quantitative researcher, quant analyst, or risk modeler. Internships and academic projects do not count toward this total.
- 3Direct experience with backtesting, pricing models, risk models, or statistical time series.
- 4Strong programming ability in Python, R, C++, or MATLAB.
- 5Capacity to commit 10 or more hours each week.
- 6Prior role at a hedge fund, trading firm, bank, or asset manager.
- 7Familiarity with market or credit risk measures such as VaR, expected shortfall, or PD/LGD.
- 8Clear written English and the ability to walk through a model step by step.
Who Should Apply
Apply if you hold an advanced degree in a quantitative field and have spent at least three years in a full-time quant research, quant analyst, or risk modeling seat. The strongest candidates can point to hands-on work with backtesting, pricing models, risk models, or statistical time series, plus fluency in Python, R, C++, or MATLAB. This role fits people who want to design and solve problems in their own specialty and can set aside 10 or more hours per week. The role is a poor match for traders who never held a modeling role, software engineers without quant finance experience, and financial analysts whose work centers on reporting. Applications often fall short when the candidate counts internships or coursework toward the 3-year experience bar, or shows no concrete project in backtesting, pricing, risk, or time series. Weak written explanations of modeling choices also hurt, because the job depends on clear step-by-step reasoning.

Application Tip
Pick one project where you performed backtesting, built a pricing model, or developed a risk model, then describe the problem, your assumptions, the method, and the result in plain English. Quantify your full-time experience since internships and school do not count toward the 3-year minimum.

AfterQuery
VerifiedQuantitative Analyst Expert
AfterQuery partners with top AI research labs to generate expert-level training and evaluation content. In this role, you will review AI-produced quantitative analysis for mathematical soundness, covering areas like derivatives pricing, time-series analysis, and portfolio construction. You will also build step-by-step demonstrations of risk modeling workflows drawn from your own practice. Another key task involves ranking and labeling model outputs according to established quantitative standards. The position is remote and async, with hourly compensation.

Handshake AI
VerifiedQuantitative Finance Researcher
Handshake AI seeks quantitative finance researchers and academics for a part-time, per-hour contract that supports AI research. You apply deep knowledge in mathematical finance, risk modeling, and quantitative methods to judge AI-generated content and write feedback that helps models handle quantitative finance research and methodology. The work is project-based and runs alongside your other commitments, with no prior AI experience required. Most contributors take on around 5 to 20 hours per week when an active project is available, and placement depends on current needs. The role is remote and self-scheduled.

Micro1
VerifiedQuantitative Rates Researcher
micro1 is hiring Quantitative Rates Researchers to support a leading investment bank's algorithmic trading platform. You will review AI-generated research and trading strategies for fixed income and rates markets, spotting flaws like lookahead bias, overfitting, and unrealistic cost assumptions. Your domain knowledge in yield curve modeling, carry/roll-down analytics, and SOFR/Eurodollar instruments will directly shape how AI models learn and reason. No AI experience is needed. This is a remote contractor role with flexible hours.

Handshake AI
VerifiedQuantitative Analyst (Remote, Part-Time)
Handshake AI hires experienced quantitative analysts to improve AI models through part-time, remote project work. You draw on your background in quantitative strategies and modeling to craft expert-level problems, then judge AI-generated answers for technical accuracy and real-world viability. The fellowship runs as ongoing contract work with no set schedule, so you can pair it with a current role at a fund or research shop. Feedback you write helps models reason more like a practicing quant across alpha generation, risk modeling, or portfolio construction.

AfterQuery
VerifiedEconometrics Expert
AfterQuery brings on applied economists to build empirical problems that frontier AI labs use to gauge model judgment. Prompts come straight from your own research background: causal inference questions, panel data, discrete choice models and forecasting tasks, and you carry each one through to a reference answer with the reasoning laid out step by step. Hours stay flexible with a floor of 10 per week and no ceiling, so you decide how much you take on each week. Pay arrives weekly through Stripe, and the arrangement runs as independent contractor work with ongoing projects.

AfterQuery
VerifiedScientific Computing Research Expert
AfterQuery builds a network of PhD-level and PhD-pursuing researchers who write and calibrate evaluation tasks for AI models. Your starting point is real computational work you have run, debugged, or been paid to do, such as data reduction, model fitting, simulation setup, instrument data processing, numerical solvers, or inverse problems. Tasks span life sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, mathematical sciences, and engineering sciences. Difficulty comes from the science itself, not from withheld information. You can take on tasks as an independent contractor, with Python as the core tool for running and debugging your own work.
